Comment:
Seems like a nice guy, but is very unorganized. He does't leave enough time to get through all the problem sets during lecture, and also randomly leaves the room for half of the class so you can't ask him questions as you're working on the problems. He only updates grades once in a blue moon so you never truly know what your grade is.

You will have to purchase an access key to the book online to do annotated readings. He makes you read the text and work on problems in class. He does not reserve enough time to do the problems so you will often never see them finished. Does not grade assignments. Posts assignments late at night (midnight) and expects them done. STAY AWAY

He was extremely hard to talk to at first, but after asking him one question in lab I realized he is so easy to talk to and really wants you to do well. He is really specific about what he wants in your lab turn-ins and will dock you points for small things but is so willing to help that getting good scores is easy if you are willing to try.

McEllistream is the best professor I've ever had. I have him for my lab instructor for chem 103. I am not good at chemistry at all, and he does a great job walking you through every step of the lab. He challenges you, but always gives you clear answers to the questions you ask. One of the most caring people I have ever met. Highly recommend.

Dr. McEllistrem was my lab professor, and he gave very clear guidelines every week for our lab reports and how he would grade them. Pretty easy grader, and we got the graded ones back. He helps make sure we understand the material. Definitely recommend him!

McEllistrem is a great professor. Him teaching materials science really is great, and he keeps the classes interesting and fun. He has a great sense of humor and will communicate with the class, so don't be afraid to speak up. Very helpful when meeting outside of class as well. The only slightly difficult part of the class is the open ended labs.

Quite the fun teacher for this class! I really enjoy having him for Materials Science, and I think teaching it is his true calling. He's very interactive with the class and is fun to joke around with. (Magic Cup!) This course has been a breeze with him teaching it. The only complaint I have is the openness of the labs. PS: Liquid Nitrogen on demand

The class is extremely difficult if you don't have a substantial background in chemistry. He is a very good professor and knows if half the class fails his tests he didn't do something right so he curves them . I recommend him for a teacher but this class is a lot of work.

good teacher, wants you to learn, helps you to learn. Tests are designed to test what you know, not screw you over. Has good method to "curve" tests

Great prof, and very easy to talk to. Don't be afraid to talk about anything with him, he's a really great guy. Given the material he has to cover and the time he has to do it in, the amount of studying is quite a bit, but it will pay off come test time.
