Prof. Shaw really cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. Since it's a literature class, there is a ton of reading, but even if you just skim it, you'll be able to participate in class. It's an enjoyable class.

The class material is okay; there is a lot of reading in French, especially from the Romantic period. Shaw knows the material well, and the class is pretty straightforward. There are 4 papers (3 pages each), and a midterm and a final, as well as a 10 min expose, but if you do your work and read what she assigns, it's a fairly easy A!

She is a very nice person and your grade will not be lower than a B unless you really don't try, but the class is draining. She is very focused on specific literary techniques and it becomes monotonous and for a lit class she is very stuck on grammar. be prepared for a lot of red pen on your essays

one of my favorite teachers at rutgers; she cares more that you learn the material and isn't out to fail you like some teachers. also a nice atmosphere during class, she is sooo chill. DEFINITELY take her if you can

She's a very nice woman and is very passionate in her subject matter. She always wants to help and offered extra credit. She is not a hard grader, but she expects good French writing and deep ideas. My biggest qualm with her was her assigning new projects during the busiest time of the semester, projects that did not really count for much.

I did not read a single one of the 6-7 plays that we studied, participated maybe three times in the whole semester, and got a B+. Writing well in French is your best bet. Also, she hasn't got a bad bone in her body; very sweet lady.
