Dr. Hametz is one of the most intelligent professors at ODU. It is truly remarkable how much information she has acquired. She does not spoon-feed babies that don't want to do work. If you're lazy, you shouldn't be a history major in the first place. This was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. I've never learned more in any class.

I love that she knows what she is teaching. However, her mid term and final are 15 terms/people and she does not give it to you before hand, you have to figure it out from the reading and powerpoint. A ton of books to read. No clear grading. MUST SHOW UP TO CLASS, not mandatory but you will fail the test.

Worst Professor ever. She gives you the grade that she wants and not the that grade you deserve, and she does so by not having a clear grading criteria. Therefore you can't see what exactly you did wrong. The ids on exams are 10 points each but somehow you get a 7.5, or a 9.5, and it left me wondering if i missed a punctuation?

Doesn't post powerpoints on Blackboard, so take good notes. LONG LECTURES, but she believes in concepts, not cocktail chat facts. Your notes should be on what she connects each topic to, really important. Not a lot of work to turn in, so you have to do well on each assignment. She wants to help you, so get her help

Be careful with this professor. She seems helpful but will turn around and get upset when you ask. I don't trust her and I have seen her bully students and instigate arguments with them. She likes to name drop and elevate herself to a level of importance that she hasn't earned.

She talks about herself and her life more than she should. Her class is demanding in terms of reading- don't expect to skate by. B-grades are fairly easy to get if you keep up, but A's are difficult. She tends to be very verbose. She tries to encourage conversation about the topic, but can get frustrated if your responses aren't what she wants.

Dr. Hametz is a wonderful educator. She is a professional historian and treats students as such. Her courses are not easy, but grad school should be difficult. If you are not willing to commit yourself to study, you will find her challenging. If you are prepared to engage yourself with your material, you will be hard pressed to find a better prof.

She's a great person & funny but her class is overkill. Her exams are pretty easy, the first paper isn't bad but the doc essay is just horrible. Then she wants you to write another small paper for the final. Smh I liked her choice of books but Iordachi was hard to understand & she may not use it in the fall. Do the occasional points, they help!

If you do not enjoy reading do not take this class. Dr. Hametz expects you to come to class prepared with questions. Lectures from ppt. Goes off lecture topic at times but is relatable to the class. Tests are ID's and Essays. Study and read and youll be fine. Two papers, and a documents essay, along wit paper with your final. I loved this class.

Interesting and work-loaded class. If you are a fan of 1500+ essays with complete citations and don't mind reading 10+ books over the class course than take the class.

required class - she made it interesting - she has a reputation as being a hard professor, but I didn't find that to be entirely true - great class, great teaching.

she is a very nice person but the class is very work intensive. you cant expect to slack in her class. she encourages discussions in class but can easily make one feel incompetent in a way for speaking because she believes that only her knowledge concerning certain things are right. Very good class though i learned a lot and improved my work ethic.

Her grading is inconsistent on assignments, but you can do it. I took it over the summer where you do about four 2 page reading reviews every few days from the books she assigns. Then there is a 25 page paper at the end. It is a lot of work, but I got all the points needed on the reviews. Do not take it if you are not willing to do homework. It w

Dr. Hametz is a hard grader but she knows what shes doing. Her tests are pretty hard as well. You really have to read and pay attention in class to do well. You also have to know how to write a good paper. If you don't have to then don't take her class, nothing against her but she is hard. As a person she is nice but tough.

I liked her. I took her for 201 as well. she knows her stuff, she comes off a little snobby, but if you talk to her and act interested she will help. better for the higher level classes. she expects you to know some history before taking her classes. come to class, pay attention, ask questions, do your work and you'll be fine. plus shes funny.

She is a tough grader, but she is fair. This is a course where you get out what you put in. Don't take her if you want to skate, but you will absolutely be a better writer and researcher when you are finished. As a professor Dr. Hametz is opinionated and a little blunt, but she will go the extra mile to help, if you ASK.
