He's super friendly and east to talk to if you have questions about anything. Easy to listen to lectures. Not a ton of homework. The class is easy if you simply go to the lectures.

Comment:

Good choice for a gen ed. The real godsends of his class are: 1.) Everything is multiple choice, 2.) Deadlines are on Monday nights over Sundays, 3.) No minus grades. It definitely gets harder through the semester and his powerpoints can be confusing but the workload is very light, just make sure you study for the tests.

I loved Dr. Reed. He made Astronomy super interesting to learn. If you pay attention and read, it will be an easy A. I'd recommend his class to anyone at MSU.

Comment:

This class starts out very easy, but gets much harder after the first test. Make sure you know where you stand before choosing wether to take the final or test three, I can't stress this enough. You'll do fine as long as you understand the material in the review and sample tests. Overall a boring and confusing lecturer, I wouldn't recommend him.

Comment:

The first few weeks were easy, the weekly quizzes had obvious answers and I wasn't concerned. When the exams roll around you are left completely unprepared. The exams cover hard material, and you have to teach yourself through the study guide, which sometimes comes without an answer key. This class is way too hard for a gen ed.

Dr. Reed is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's really quirky, funny, and always in a good mood. He makes class really fun because you can tell he really loves what he does. If you still need the science credit don't take another class stop here and take this.

Mike Reed is really cool. I'm terrible at science and thought going into this class I would be struggling but he makes it so easy! quizzes are everyday so you have to go but the quiz is a one question quiz on clickers and you get points even if it's wrong. there's two group projects but the tests are easy bc he sends out copies of old tests

Makes the first few weeks easy and then drops a ton of heavy stuff on you and does not instruct well on it. The second test had a question about dinosaurs. Dinosaurs... in astronomy. Group projects make no sense and require you to be extremely knowledgeable on topics never discussed in class. Would not recommend

I highly recommend taking this class with Reed, super easy and fun. There are 16 quizzes throughout the semester but its 1-2 clicker questions. There is 2 tests and an optional 3rd or the final exam. A few EASY group projects and 4 homework assignments. I barely payed attention and skipped a bunch and passed with an A. Fun guy makes it interesting.

Does quizzes for attendance a few times a week but not necessarily every day. Study guides clearly lay out what will be on the test! Didnt have to work too hard to get a B+ Coming from a humanity major.

I have no interest in astronomy whatsoever, but Dr. Reed is an exceptionally personable guy and is extremely funny which makes his lectures interesting. If you have a chance to get him, take it!

Asks open ended questions a bit to get you thinking. Only used textbook for homework (6 of them) for the semester everything else is PowerPoint/lecture notes. Two group projects, 2 tests and option for third test or comprehensive final. Nice guy but can be difficult to follow at times. I only missed one day of classes and left with a B.

Comment:

Delightful man. Always excited to be there and have you in class. However, his powerpoints and explanations can be confusing beyond comprehension. Almost every other problem/example had computational errors. If precise answers are expected from the student, precise explanations should be demanded from the teacher. Sometimes will curve tests.

Great teacher. If you don't show up to class you won't get a good grade because of random quizzes. There are group projects, so if you're like me and dislike group projects there will be some days you'll suffer through them. A lot of astronomy is theoretical, so if you like actually thinking about what you're being taught, you'll like it!

Those giving bad reviews are the people who never go to class to get the points. If you show up to do the Quiz (one question he gives u the answer to) you will do fine. I took notes but mostly if u go to the study reviews and to the practice test online, you should be fine for tests. homework is a piece of cake too, it took 30 minutes!

This teacher is super nice! I don't understand why all the students complaint about him,but being here as an international student,I noticed American students LOVE to complaint about their teacher.They should come to my country and study there,then only they'll know! Take him if you want to get good grades!Come to class don't be lazy!

RUN!RUN!RUN! ...he is terrible. he'll waste all of the class time asking stupid ass questions and gazing out into the crowd for people using their cell phones so he can call them out. I looked at the grade list for my class and only 2 people out of 150 have A's in the class. C's for everyone else.
