Comment:

Lectures are heavy and boring, she really needs to give up on that powerpoint lecture and start writing examples and stuff. She knows that some of the subjects can be really difficult so she works with you as much as she can and you get lots of easy extra credit on the HW and even on the exam.

Comment:

Assignments & exams are graded with a LOT of doubt given to the students (you will get full points for just trying and being in the right direction). However, the lectures and assignments will occasionally be super technical and difficult to understand, but the easy grading helps you stay afloat in this class. Awesome professor, and lenient.

this class was a piece of cake, read the book before coming to lectures, and ask questions, she certainly answers you the best way she can but if you are not familiar with the terminology you won't get what she's talking about. I really hope to get her as an adviser for my m.s

Comment:

She doesn't use WebCampus for anything so keep track of your grade yourself. Lectures are dry and I generally left class confused/frustrated. She goes slow on the easy things and fast on the hard things it felt like. With that said though as long as you do the extra credits on HW and do decent on the HW in general you'll be fine.

She is one of the best prof for cs, unfortunately she is not teaching this fall or spring so I feel sorry for the new comers who are going to take this important class with new instructors who have absolutely no experience.

CS135 as a class has a lot of material to cover in just one semester. It is very hard to make a class with so much information manageable to students. I think that Monica did the best she could do.

Yes lectures are a bit boring but that's why you have the book, read it before you go to the lecture and try to find out what you missed before and learn it. She helps you a lot if you seek help, just email her or go to her office hours and you'll finish the project in a few hours instead of struggling with it for a few days.

She is the best CS professor on campus. She went easy on us for spring semester but she still made sure that we learned everything... projects are more difficult during fall semester for some reason so just take it during spring semester if you can.

This is a programming class, not a coding class... she could easily teach everyone how to code in one semester but she wants us to learn programming that's why her lectures were heavy and sometimes boring. Students in an introductory class are expecting to code that's why many of them get disappointed or get bad grades. Learn programming not coding

The truth is that you should know the stuff and this class is just to keep you organized. Go to her office hours she will help you a lot with your papers. If you just pay attention and practice, this class will become so easy that you will question the fact that it is a 400 level class.

This class changed a lot this spring semester, lots of people got A's and the ones that didn't get a good grade just didn't study. She literally gives you 10 points for free for each project so you can get 110 out of 100... I finished the class with 105% in class. Get ready to study tho, if you don't like to open the book then change you major.

I found the lectures to be really hard to pay attention to. I just don't learn well with PowerPoint lectures since they are really just going through the slides. I learned more watching MIT's online Dynamic Programming lectures than taking notes on the in-class lectures. Luckily, if you do the Hwk and extra credit, you will do fine.

Monica is a good professor. The only issue is that her voice makes you fall asleep. There wasn't a day that I didn't fall asleep in class while she was teaching.
