She definitely has a specific outlook on the material in the lectures, and it shows. She made testing easy as she usually talked to us about the material, and the study guides were ALWAYS the test. Final readings are the only thing you really have to read because its on the final. She is extremely nice, takes time to learn names.

Dr. Bose will work you really hard and you NEED to come to class prepared and ready to discuss. She also is not at all afraid of letting you know exactly what she thinks about something. That being said, she taught me more than any professor I've had at IU in my 6 semesters here, and helped me develop so much as a scholar. Take her class.

She does expect you to read a lot, but you don't really have to because she goes over it in class. She also takes notes on the board so you just have to show up and copy that.

She has VERY high standards and is not afraid to call you out for not knowing anything for about the reading you were not supposed to prepare. She is very Femisnist and Left and it shows. HOWEVER! She is a great professor who knows her stuff. Do the reading, go to class, participate, know the material (use them study sheets) and you will do fine.

Although Professor Bose has high standards, they are easily met with participation. As long as you go to class and actually listen, the class can be quite enjoyable.

Comment:
Professor Bose is an extremely difficult teacher with expectations that are almost impossible to meet. Views are very evident in class and in tests. Go to class, talk as much as possible, and study hard. You won't get an A unless you spend all your time on her class alone or know everything there is to know about corporations and societal issues.

Purnima is definitely not the hardest professor I've had the English department, precisely because she's so clear with what she's looking for. She expects a lot of work out of you, but you're never going to wonder why you got the grade you got.

Too much historical background and not enough time spent on the novels. Hard grading scale and very picky with papers.

Grading scale is ridiculous. 95% is the lowest grade you can get to earn an A. What a joke. Insists on spreading her extremely liberal views.

She was the most challenging prof I had in the English dept. I thought she was very passionate about what she was teaching and really wanted to get that across to her students. The history she gave in class was to clarify the reading material. She very much wants to ameliorate her students and give them a more global perspective and understanding.
