Comment:
Chem7L was one of the hardest classes I've taken at UCSD because of the workload and specificity of the lab reports. Although his lab reports were tough (such inconsistent grading!), his exams were very straightforward and easy (multiple choice). Go to the chem help room/ TA office hours if you want a decent grade on lab reports for sure.

He seemed like a fair and cool guy through most of the course, but the grading was a mess. The TAs were very inconsistent in their grading (some were very strict and others were very lax), and he curved the class down two weeks after the final grades were posted. Its very disappointing to think you got an A- and have it turned into a B :/

Decent professor. He tells you exactly what is needed on his lab templates. I thought he was clear on what he wanted from the class, and his grading was fine for me.

He seemed like a fair teacher initially. But then, no proper communication or guidelines, and on top of that had no grade adjustments or curve factored into the class. Being a Chemistry course, you wouldn't except a professor to grade that strictly. Furthermore, he dropped all grades by 1/2 a week AFTER grades were finalized and posted to academics

By lowering all students' grades 2 weeks after grades were finalized, he jeopardized the futures of students who thought they passed 7L, took a class where 7L was a prereq, and now had to drop the class at the end of week 1 because they failed 7L. Now they can't enroll in 7L for this quarter, lost the class they took this quarter, and are set back.

Terrible professor. Absolutely would not recommend unless you want to feel completely undervalued as a student and go on an emotional roller coaster of not even having an idea of what grade to expect. He hints in lectures that he will end up curving the grades then decides to curve it so that we all do worse THREE WEEKS AFTER THE COURSE ENDED.

Arbitrary grading of labs, asked TAs to regrade multiple times because the average on the labs was too high, changed the grades 3 weeks after they were submitted.

Cohen has no regard for his students and their grades. He changed our grades more than 10 days after uploading them and lowered them ! It hurt everybodys GPA and set back many by an entire quarter! His TAs are wildly inconsistent with grading and its always a guessing game. Ive never seen such a brash lack of concern for students. disgusting !!!

He never really specified what was required to actually get a good grade and on top of that he lowered everyone's grade by a 1/3 of a letter grade three weeks after the grades were submitted. This was a betrayal of the students' trust.

For most professors, when there are two grading scales, they would always choose the one which is better for the student. But for Cohen, he chooses the tougher scale and makes your life worse. He curve the grade down three weeks after the official grades are posted!!!! HORRIBLE!!! TERRIBLE!!! DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!

Seth Cohen is a terrible professor. He went against the University's policy and changed final grades three weeks after they were posted. There was no rubric posted for the course, or any of the labs. Every lab was graded meticulously, many TA's had discrepancies in their grading, we lost points over the smallest things, and he did not curve at all.

Awful teacher. Absolutely doesn't care about the students. Rude and disrespectful, when I asked him for a makeup on a quiz I missed because I had surgery, he said there was nothing I could do and that I would get a 0.

Extremely unclear about instruction throughout the quarter, expectations are vague, the lab reports are graded meticulously and you get docked points for the smallest things. TAs are inconsistent with their help and grading. No curve whatsoever, 93.9 is an A- thats FINAL. Oh wait, but 3 weeks after finals grades are posted, he drops all grades.

Seth Cohen is a nice guy. Seth Cohen is a decent lecturer. Seth Cohen is NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR. Professor's give students a detailed list of expectations and make demands transparent. This "professor" failed to post any sort of rubric for labs and then ravaged every report. Would not recommend if you're looking for a reasonable class.

I went to class, help hours, even rewatched podcasts many times. Unclear rubrics & clueless TAs. Lowering the grades of all students after they've been logged shows a fundamental disregard for the emotional state of his students. Reduced everyone's grade, harming their GPA. He hinted in lecture he might curve, but clearly didn't mean it. I'm so sad.

Professor Cohen begins his lecture's by stating how rudimentary this class is. He is rude over email, and has NO idea what's going on in his class. He hides the rubric for his labs, and doesn't guide us at all aside from giving us templates for lab which are vague. He told us there would a slight curve, then changed his mind. Super unprofessional.

His lab report templates are vague misleading and do not match his own rubric, which he never disclosed to the students. Graders are inconsistent with their grading criteria throughout the quarter. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST
