show up to class always. if you miss one or two days but your work is really good it's okay. He teaches the class enthusiastically. The people who failed his class didn't go for extra help and weren't really go getters. i didn't read the book that much either.

I had Dr. Benzel a few times, and I found his classes to be some of the most stimulating I've taken. He isn't that helpful if you don't know what you're doing, but if you're above-average and want a better understanding of the material, he was one of the few professors that would try to engage and challenge you -- and had the ability to do it.

Ive had him for calc I and differential he PURPOSELY makes his calc I class hard so ppl who shouldnt be math majors change he is actually entertaining after a while and really funny outside the classroom being honest if youre looking for an easy A take diff EQ with him but NOT calc though its not impossible if you have trouble with algebra AVOID

Benzel is a strange guy. His teaching style is horrible. I taught myself out of the book. His points-style grading system can really work to your advantage. I failed a few exams and still came out w/ an a-. So come to class & do your homework for those points!

His lecture is extremely unclear. Took calc in HS and still had difficulty following. Grading--> you can really redeem yourself on the final. I wouldn't suggest taking him if you don't already have a good understanding of Calculus. If you love math, you'll come out all right, but if you hate it you'll feel justified.

I had a very limited math background going into his class, and found it very difficult, however, if you go to him he will help you. You just have to be willing to put alot of work in. If I can do it, surely most others can.

This class was ridiculous...he is very confusing. When you ask a question, he tries to answer it but It confuses you more! If you have to ask a question make sure that you are very clear! I WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE WHO HAS NOT HAD CALC BEFORE TO TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!

While a very hard class (Discrete Structures), he is a very nice man. He assumed you already know everything, and does not explain things well. But, SUCK UP!!! He'll love you! I promise, I failed every test except one, and still ended up with an A, because I sucked up, laughed at his pathetic jokes, and volunteered to bring donuts for the class!

Too smart for his own good. He picks good text books and the homework isn't too bad. His tests are at the same level as the homework. But, his lectures are at a gradschool level. He assumes that you completely understood the text book and teachs advanced methods and theory. Great prof for the smartest person in class. Bad for everyone else.

HE ROCKS! everyone told me how hard his class was and how terrible of a teacher he is but I like him. Benzel made Calculus easy and I ended up with an A. He is very helpful outside of class, and his attempts at being funny, while pathetic, did.

The man's a genius, but he has serious trouble conveying his ideas. He tends to base things in the class on classes that are not prerequisites, and so you get lost easily during lecture (for example, complex analysis is not a prereq, but he uses it here.) He is available to help after class.
