Really sweet guy but really dry lectures. Easy to show up, not pay attention and still pass. Not a lot of homework and what we did have was super easy.

Comment:

Professor Tam is obviously knowledgeable in his field of East Asian Studies. His office is full of books, both in Chinese and English. However, he a respectable scholar but definitely not a good professor. He is very, very, dry, almost dehydrated. He has a really really low voice, and the lecture is extremely extremely boring. No one participated.

Comment:

Professor Tam is a kind and sweet professor if you approach him after the class. He knows a lot about China and Japan. That being said, his class is full of dry lectures in very low voice with his strong accent that is hardly recognizable. I would not recommend him if you are looking for someone who inspires in the class.

Professor Tam is very dry. It wasn't difficult for me to understand him though he speaks softly. He did drive us to an authentic Chinese buffet for class once - good driver. Very lenient; let me turn in an essay two weeks late for full credit. I escaped with a B+, even after not completing the final paper, and participating in class sparingly.

He made absolutely zero effort in teaching this class. He often made obvious factual errors. Classes were exceptionally boring and he is very, very hard to understand and to listen to. He was frustratingly out of it and impossible to learn from.

His class was so boring, he's been a lot of places and he obviously knows a lot about his subject but his accent is hard to understand and it made for bad lecture which is the majority of the class. Still you can't help but feel sorry for him because he's got that cute old chinese man thing going. Very easy grader

Everyone falls asleep in this class, even the two people who do the reading and answer questions. I'd say he was a terrible prof, but he's so damn nice and really cute in an old-man-with-poor-command-of-english-language way.

Professor Tam, while incredibly knowledgeable about the subject of Japanese history, does not know how to teach it. I've seen prospective students fall asleep in this class. Tam speaks four languages and is boring in all of them.
