Dan is a great professor! He provides all the information you will need to do well in his class on his website. He encourages class discussions about the books he assigns and gives you the questions for the exams well before hand. His lectures are just bonus regarding the course material that is tested on, so if you miss one it is easy to catch up!

Dan is hands down the most passionate teacher I've ever had - and likely the most intelligent too. I'm sincerely going to miss his classes as I move on from NIC and I'm honoured to have had such an invested instructor. He's very understanding and a small college is lucky to have someone who could probably be teaching anywhere in the world!

Comment:
Dan's grading criteria is confusing and inconsistent, boring lectures, many small assignments which can be tedious. A very kind man, but the class felt too 'high school', with journal entries, poster projects, etc. He doesn't assign a text but he does require you to buy 4 novels. I've taken other courses of his and they follow the same system.

Dan is a good teacher with a brain like an encyclopedia. He's friendly and helpful, and will take as much time as you need to answer any questions you have. His class was harder than some: he gives out a ton of assignments, but does his best to make them fun and interesting. He has a minor speech impediment: his lectures were often hard to follow.

His work load is high, but broken into many small assignments. If you want a good mark you need to do the reading and stay on top of your work. As a Teacher he loves to help and loves his subject. Really nice and caring guy.

He is a great teacher, and I did very much enjoy the classes, however the course load was very heavy, and the % of marks for the amount of work didn't add up. But if you're prepared to work hard. I'd recommend him in a heartbeat.

Dan was the very first History Professor that I have ever had at the post-secondary level. I have to say, I am so pleased that I was able to be his student. He is kind, personable, and knowledgeable. In addition, he creates engaging, unconventional, and extremely useful assignments that ingrain knowledge into a student's mind. A brilliant teacher.

I loved taking all of Dan's Classes. I don't think there is anything (and I mean anything) he doesn't know the answer to. His assignments force you actually *think* but he teaches in such a way that you love explooring the content he presents. He also has a wonderful way of making the course material tie into current events. Dan rocks period.

Dan is a very sweet man. he's one of the nicest professors i've ever had the pleasure of being taught by. his teaching method is different and i personally found it kind of boring. we watched a lot of videos, had a few dicussions and did a poster project. the course was an easy three credits but i didn't really learn anything i didn't already know

I took 130, 120, 215 and 216 with Dan, and for a good reason; Dan = genius. You would not beleive the ammount of information he has about all things history. The journal provides opportunity to explore very obscure corners of history, Dan can provide helpfull sources for really any topic you can think of. It was an honour to be his student.

Dan is a really good professor. He is always willing to help and he cares about his field. His class is definately not your standard lecture. He uses multimedia and discussion a lot. None of his classes require a paper, but they do require a significant number of smaller assignments to be handed in twice a semester. He Prepares you for the exam.

Dan is a very interesting instucter. The material is learned through fun but unconventional methods. You will know the material and work hard. Be forewarned: there is no research paper, so this is not the course to prepare for higher level essays. (It was good for me as I had four other courses each with research papers).

Fabulous teacher. Teaches in an unorthodox style, but a student really learns the subject. Very hands on learning, journal entries and class discussion important to the grade. Has a speach impediment that once you get used to it in no way interferes with learning. I would gladly take his courses again.

Nice man and a great teacher, however he has a speech impedement making it very difficult to focus at times. Will constantly say "uh" between words and stutters a fair bit. Can make lectures a large struggle because of this
