I loved Ochem going in and thankfully I had an awesome teacher because I didn't learn anything in Mariano's course. She rambles on often and can't teach well. If you care about chemistry and want to learn dont take this course with her.

Terrible Professor. How she has taught at UNM for X amount of years is beyond me. She is very knowledgeable about higher order chemistry but has no clue how to teach it to students. Conceptually Higher order chemistry is difficult, she makes it 10x more difficult and never takes her foot off the gas. Whatever you do, avoid her.

Comment:
Organic Chemistry of Biological Pathways by Dunway-Mariano is an extremely difficult class. This is a senior level chemistry course and she shows 0 remorse for her students such that she makes an already extremely difficult topic even harder. Whatever you do, try to avoid her at all costs.

Dr.DM mostly follows her own rules by using a combination of the book and random things from, god-knows-where, to make a mass of power points. Then you are expected to study the ppts to complete the hw(impossible). The tests were based off hw and practice exams. Although this class was awful, she did everything she could to help us and was nice.

This course was designed to be challenging however Debra will do absolutely nothing to help you through it. Powerpoints are very unclear, homework is always in disorder and hard to understand, however tests are taken straight from exam reviews. Overall she is very lazy and horrible at communicating to her class anything about chemistry.

DDM is a very good teacher. The reason she has bad ratings on here.. I have no clue. Her power points were made for a 5 year old and very easy to follow. The other people who gave her bad ratings probably didn't try.. at all. You must study a lot for this class, it is NOT easy in the first place because it is Biochem! I recommend, definitely.

This is a difficult class in and of itself. Unfortunately, the professor does little, if any, to make the material easier to understand. Sloppy handwriting on the board, arbitrary grading, and seemingly unwilling to help. Don't try asking her about your grade either. She has no justification for grading and ignores you until you go away.

This was the worst class I have ever taken. Grading is completely arbitrary, not helpful at all for/during office hours, extremely boring lectures, poor quality of notes, sloppy handwriting on the board..it goes on and on. Furthermore, if you try to ask her about your grade, she will ignore you until you go away.

well the class was boring, and it is hard to follow her sckeches, it is exremly sloppy. If you want to pass the class do all extra credit, it is time consuming, but it worth it if you want to get good grade.

If you don't use specific words in your answers then you'll fail the tests. Homework is long but usually straight from the notes or lectures. She favors certain students and grades upon this.

Debra grading is different between students, for example she gave credit for one answer on one person's paper and no credit for the same answer on another student's paper????

A very knowledgable professor that is also funny and down to earth, you always know exactly what she expects from you but that does not always make learning all the concepts easy
