I took Modern Dance I to fulfill my GER requirement. Denise is a good dance instructor and she truly has a passion for what she teaches. There are two major writing assignments that you fulfill by going to two mandatory dance concerts. She also grades you on your dance technique and group dance projects. Fun class and good way to let off steam!

I absolutely adore Denise and this class. If you show up and try your hardest, you will do well! She genuinely cares about all her students, and the class itself is fun and a decent workout! Highly recommend.

Comment:

Denise is an amazing dance professor. She brings a lot of fun to her choreography. I have never seen her in a bad mood during class. Her style is very consistent through class. You can only miss a week of class, so use the absences wisely. Overall, an amazing professor and friend.

Comment:

Expect to be pushed HARD toward excellenceperfection. I spent all semester conflicted between my appreciation of how much I was learning and my frustration at the amount of time and effort I was putting into 2 credits: 3.5 class hrsweek + 2 weeks of 4-5 hrs of stressful rehearsals. As a person & teacher, Denise is great. Just: STRESS.

Comment:

The hardest part of this class is being motivated to dance when the time comes! Prof Wade really knows her stuff and expects you to give it your all, so be ready to dance. If you are having problems, ask for help! Attendance is mandatory & have two concert viewing assignments. At times this class is very fun!

Prof. Wade is extremely nice and wants her students to have fun. She'll make you work hard and attendance is mandatory. I had fun with the class and think its a good way to fulfill the GER.

In terms of the GER, there are easier classes to take. That said, I really did enjoy this class and I thought Denise did a good job of incorporating everyone and using constructive criticism. My only complaint was that there was a lot of writing work required for class, esp. for a 2 credit GER, when I was only expecting to be graded on dance.

She was very enthusiastic and truly wanted to help. Grades we always a surprise; she graded on skill and attendance as well as a few uninteresting projects and papers. If you're not good at dance and not really willing to give it 100%, don't take this class. If, however, you are willing to sweat and be sore and maybe not get and A, then go for it.

She's an excellent teacher, but definitely tough. If you want an easy GER take another class. If you want an amazing workout (yes you will be sore, that is to be expected in dance) and an extremely well-qualified teacher (she danced on broadway) then take her. You do have to go to class, after all its graded 90% on participation.

I love her so much! She expects her students to work hard, but I have yet to meet a dance teacher who didn't. Her enthusiasm for dance is contagious, and it is impossible to not laugh at her crazy voices. Everyone should take a class with Denise.

Comment:

Great teacher, but tough on her students. She isnt a terribly hard grader, but don't expect an easy A. Class is a good workout, and soreness attests to that. She can sound gruff sometimes, but she's really sweet, and very helpful outside of class.

nice but seems to believe that everyone is a dance major - and grades accordingly when half the class experienced soreness after a new routine in a class told us to work through it....so everyone was sore for the midterm a c minus for teaching skills

She's a stickler about missing class, even if it is because you are legitimately sick. Got a B+, because she doesn't realize most people want it for the GER. She's pretty nice, but don't expect an A, especially if you didn't take Modern I first.

Shes a really nice person, and really wants to be helpful, however she does not realize that this is a course that many take simply as a GER. She grades harshly, so don't go into this expecting an A, in my class only 3 girls got As, out of 35 people

Denise is great. She is a little wishy washy but so friendly and bubbly, you can't help but think she's cute (and a little crazy) when she does all her accents. A pretty good class and works you hard too.
