Comment:

Very limited to modern dance, not very open minded about other styles. Very biased against other styles of dance, but fawns on her Orchesis dancers. The only people who do well in her classes are talented modern dancers. If you want to dance other styles, don't even bother.

Comment:

Loved this class! Yoga+workout+theater+art+mindandbodybending. She's always energetic, attentive to each student, has a good sense of humor and really makes you approach dance as an art form of expression, however you want to express yourself. TOUGH grader but I had a good time working with her and my classmates!

She is a sweet person, but she is not suited to teach a jazz class. She is out of her element, does not give challenging or exciting choreography, and grades too harshly. I would not recommend taking class with her.

Comment:

She's a great dancer and teacher. Shes very honest about your faults but so sweet and hyper you love her for it. She definitely expects quality even from non-dancers, so her classes arent for those without some dedication. They are great workouts though, and lots of fun.

Joan is a very encouraging teacher and she takes a lot of time to get to know each individual. She is a pretty tough grader, so make sure you're there on time and putting in a lot of effort.

I don't care what these other ratings say, JOan is a great teacher. She thinks about dance intellectually and does a good job of it. I took two semesters with her, and got an A in both because I bothered to listen. Anyone who is interested in dance and not trying to get out of GER 5 will learn a lot

The absolute worst teacher I have ever taken from. I saw her perform in the fall and she is terrible. People in the class were all making fun of her. How can she expect us to do stuff that she cant? Stay away!

This is a intro class with no experience necessary, but it's not taught that way. This was the longest 1hr 45min class ever. Doesn't grade on effort or improvement, but performance. Way to hard...take a different GER 6 unless you want a B in a dance class.

Took it for my GER 6 and it ended up being my lowest grade. Don't expect to get an A just because you go to every class, volunteer to lead lines, stay after class to ask questions/show interest, etc. Hour and 40 min long class can drag on forever.

Shes not a very good choreographer or dancer but she is around all the time. She doesnt really push you and shes pretty picky about grading. I wouldnt recommend class with her.

She shouldn't be the one teaching choreography classes, although she has the patience for it. I feel like she should only teach the lower levels because she works well in that range. She is very dedicated though and seems to be in her office alot.
