I disagree with other comments on here, it is possible to get an A in his class. Make use of the writing center, put in the effort, and carefully proofread your papers, and you will be fine. I also like the engagement of his discussion boards, and he gives interesting stories to read. I wish there were more classes I could take with him.

I would not recommend taking this class unless you are trying to be a journalist or an English teacher/professor. Gary McIlroy is a very tough grader. To be fair, the class was set up in a convenient way and the expected course work was clear. Keep in mind if you do take this course, you will not be provided with much feedback on your assignments.

If you take this class, you might as well join the military. It's literally easier to go through hell week in boot camp than to get an A in this class. Mr. Mcilroy isn't a bad guy though. I know I'm exaggerating it, but unless you have an English Professor proofreading your work before turning it in, you will not get better than a B in this class.

I wouldn't take this guys class again if you paid me a million dollars! Unless you're trying to be an English teacher or a journalist, take his class, other than that us students who are passing by because it's a requirement are not trying to be professional readers and writers. He's ignorant! If only I could show the ignorant feedback he gives.

He does not respect his students. He doesnt care about their situation . You will lose points for every little mistakes you make in the essays. I really made a mistake taking Eng131 with him. It is going to impact my GPA negatively !!!! No extra credits either Disappointed DONOT TAKE HIM... RUN

He taught 132 like an env sci class that wasn't good enough to be an English class, but also an English class that wasn't good enough to be an env sci class. Went over basic punctuation for like 2 weeks towards the last month of a second sem class. Made an "optional" climate forum mandatory, and penalized ppl who had class/didnt have 5 hrs to stay.

Semester isn't over yet, but summer and fall registrations have started and just want to give some advice to students considering this professor. He is great but tough. He will not hesitate to go into your discussion post online and grammatically correct you and is a bit condescending when he does it. Don't get emotional about it - it's his job.

I just finished his online class, and it was just what I had expected. He gives good feedback on papers, and always responds to emails. I feel like the negative feedback comes from people that just didnt put in the effort. Follow his syllabus, participate in the discussions, and you will have no problem passing the class.

I would highly recommend you not take his online course. His grading is too inconsistent, and he does not give any feedback on papers. You will also not be allowed to view the correct answers for some of the quizzes you take, so how do you know what you got wrong? Dr. Mcllroy can do better than what he has displayed this past semester.
