I had Prof. Paturca last semester and I don't agree with any of the negative comments about him. Yes, he expects you to do the work and participate - big surprise. He's very approachable and responds quickly to email. If you show an interest in the course, you'll do fine. Take Paturca.

Plays favorites more than any professor i've had at GW. He will literally pick a letter grade after the first few weeks of class and give it to you for every test or paper for the rest of the semester regardless of how hard you try. He is stubborn and unapproachable. Do not take his class unless you speak perfect French.

The worst French teacher I've ever had. Does not teach French and makes you feel stupid if you do not come into the class already speaking perfect French. He will not teach you but he will get mad when you do something incorrectly and grades harshly. A reprehensible man. Do not take French with him.

This class was difficult and it is true that he will either love or hate you. That being said, he is also the only French professor at GW who has ever taught me anything. Good professor if you want to learn and are looking for a challenge. If you don't speak French well, it would be best to avoid him.

Avoid this class at all costs! Paturca is rude, hates America, hates teaching, and hates GW. So if you want to be doomed from the start, sign on up. Otherwise, take Bridaa because she is adorable.

Paturca will either love or hate you, so make sure it's the former by doing everything he assigns and being interested. Pay attention because he often assigns HW at random points in the class and in very fast French. He gives you a second chance on papers, so talk to him after class to make sure you can correct all the mistakes.

Paturca is really scarey at first and he may picl on you and even give bad test scores, but the end of year grade is a gift and you will actually miss him in your next french class. He's really funny too once you get used to his humor.

I really liked his class because it was mostly culture oriented. I feel like I really learned about the French culture instead of just doing grammar exercises. He likes to choose a few people and pick on them often in class, but it's all in good spirit.

Difficult class...he singled people out, and seemed to have no desire to help out his students. Going to office hours didn't help much. Even though my grades improved, my semester grade did not reflect that. He admitted that my semester grade was lower than I deserved, but refused to change it.

Personally, I love Paturca. He initially comes off as arrogant and is a very intimidating teacher, but he is actually hilarious and once you get used to his teaching style, his tests are predictable and sometimes he'll even give you the answers. Great guy.

I love my french 004 class. M. Paturca really loves his subject and his students. He can be unclear because his level of French is much higher than his students', but he often repeats what he has said in English afterwards. He's very willing to help students during office hours.

This was the most unpleasant class that I've taken. Paturca was very unclear and arrogant. He did not stick to the sylabis at all and his lectures often went off on useless tangents. He would single people out in the class and chastise them for errors.
