Comment:
Taking a chem class during a pandemic is already hard enough but this class was extremely hard. The labs were pointless in my opinion and I didn't like having to buy half of the lab materials needed each week. Tests were very hard, especially the take-home portions. During lectures, she explains things very fast, but make sure to go to them.

One of the better Chemistry professors I have had at WSU. Get ready to take a lot of notes in-class (though she gives powerpoints out as well). As long as you take notes from the textbook and in-class notes, exams are not bad at all. She also grades pretty easy on lab-reports which is amazing. You'll have to work for your grade but it's attainable!

If chem is not your strong suit, DO NOT take this class. You are expected to be an expert in chem in order to pass. Almost everything she teaches you is not used on the homework or exams. She treats this class like we are all 4th year chem majors. If there is a different professor offering this class.. TAKE THEM!!!!!

She is really quiet and you can not hear a thing she is saying class. Also you might be in class but you still have to take quizzes in class which usually have nothing todo with what you were learning. If you are looking for an Easy A this is not that class for you. Also the book, the power points, and the in class activities do not go together.

super nice professor, although the tests are sort of difficult, she gives extra credit for the tests which really helps. She gives points for activities in class so attendance is highly recommended.

She is an amazing person and will work with you if you put in effort. However the class is hard, in class sometimes you don't understand what she means, don't be afraid to ask. If you don't ask when you are confused you most likely wont do well in the class. She gives lots of extra credit. Do it when she gives the opportunity, this class is tough.

Super quiet. Sat in the front row of the class all semester & could barely make out what she was saying. Homework through connect, which you will not understand unless you read the textbook on your own time. Textbook, slideshows, and labs do not have anything to do with each other. Would recommend taking a different class if you just need credit.

Dr. Franz is very nice but often unclear. She does not provide a definitive rubric for labs so its a trial and error process. Every Monday there is homework due and a quiz so if you didnt understand the homework over the weekend you're screwed. She does Tophat questions on content that hasnt been covered yet which is frustrating.

The only complaint I have about this class is that we have a quiz every Monday. Even then, it's to help us so I can't really complain about it. She is phenomenal. She makes Chemistry interesting and truly cares about her students. Take her if you need Chemistry 213.

Dr. Franz is an amazing professor. Her lectures are very interesting and easy to follow. She gives points for attendance and extra credit on tests. She is very easy to talk to and cares about her students' success. I highly recommend asking her for help or clarification during office hours. Lab reports and homework can be quite long and difficult.

Dr. Franz is a very enthusiastic professor, and clearly wants all of her students to understand and appreciate the material that she brings to each lecture. If you want a teacher to will bring in a really awesome chemical demonstration at least once a week, take her! In office hours, she explains it until you understand it.

Dr. Franz is a great person, but a not so great teacher. Granted, the material was a little dry, but she struggled to be clear with her expectations when it came to exam time. Also, not very easy to contact outside of class, so you better ask your questions early. All in all, she's okay. Easy lab grader, tough test grader.

Dr. Franz was always willing to help answer questions during office hours. Labs were very confusing (and frustrating) at times. She is a fair grader, though. Content wasn't the most interesting, but it wasn't hard - statistics & general chem stuff (Achem I) and memorizing functions and uses of instruments (Achem II). Overall, an okay teacher.

The labs are easy, tests aren't too bad if you do the review. She is hard to hear, so try to sit towards the front. She's nice about letting you turn in late homework even if she says she doesn't accept it! Decent teacher.

Awesome. She rambles & tries to be funny but it never works. Mastering chem hw was due every monday, 10 quizzes. one every monday, ACS cumulative final, go to class for unannounced extra credit. Google your hw (trust me it helped) work hard on lab (25% of your grade) and pay attention in class most of the demonstrations are on the quiz & exams

As a person she is awesome. The only major issue with this class is that Franz can't answer a lot of the questions we ask or gives us the incorrect ways to answer online homework problems. She is a fair grader, but expects a lot from her students. Overall I would recommend her, but would suggest extra studying and going to her outside of class.

I do not know where to begin to comment. She gives out study guides and nothing on them is on the test. You have two reading books, powerpoints, and a lab and NONE are correlated to each other. You learn everything BUT chemistry!!

Franz is a great chem professor. She has a true interest in the topic and is pretty clear on what you should know. She is great for help if you stop in her office. She loves environmental chemistry so those lectures are especially interesting.
