Comment:
Professor Hall is a great economics professor. He's knowledgeable and his lectures are very informative. The only grades you receive in the class are from either two or three 10 page papers. If you put in the work and pay attention to what he wants in those papers, you will do great in his class. I highly recommend him!

John Hall is a high quality professor. He knows history of economic thought like the back of his hand and takes time to learn each students name. In this course prof hall requires each student to meet with him for 15 minutes to discuss a term topic. You will be able to talk the talk after this course and will have better writing skills.

The class focuses mainly on writing. There are a total of three assignments. They require quite a bit of time if you are not good at writing. He explains the grading and expectations clearly. Not too much work for the class. He is not too strict on grading if you show the work. He is very knowledgeable but lectures can be boring at times.

Prof. Hall is the sort of person who will guide you, mentor you, and help you unearth your latent abilities. He teaches heterodox economics, so his classes do not follow the beaten path. He does not use textbooks, but does require a lot of interesting but difficult reads in his courses (think Das Kapital). Truly a gem of a professor!

He is one of the select few elite Professors who have the pedagogy, dedication, experience, and love to teach. He encourages students to go beyond their own potential. He actually guide you how to write an academic research paper from A to Z, not like other professors that just leave you in the limbo with no guidelines. His lectures are stunning!

Incredibly knowledgeable on the subject, and is genuinely invested in the success of his students. He will set you up for success, but you have to follow through. Not an easy A, you will earn it. But it will be good! The only negative is that his lectures are a bit boring, sounds a bit like Eeyore and might put you to sleep during class.

John Hall has been my favorite professor during my time at PSU. He is really interested in making sure that his students succeed. He takes the time to help students pick their paper topics and is always willing to read over rough drafts and give feedback. His main focus is on helping students to improve their writing skills.

Professor Hall was OK. His lectures were pretty funny at times, but overall, kind of boring. He said the same thing multiple days quite a bit. He assigned a term paper, which was to be written throughout the term. I liked how that was set up.

Had him for economics of transition. Knows his stuff. Read the book, but don't miss the lectures. They're useful and they're fun. He's mostly interested in seeing students synthesize ideas and write about them. If your writing chops are lacking, he'll let you know, but he'll give you good feedback. Has his own (sane) standard of citation.

Like everyone else, I think Professor Hall is one of PSU's best. I wish I had taken a class from him sooner. 10 page papers were daunting, but now I'm a lot more comfortable with writing long papers. Enjoys talking to students and helps make the experience a lot more pleasant. If you want an easy A, go elsewhere. If you want to learn, he's your guy

I have taken two graduate level classes with Professor Hall and as a result will have two book reviews published. Both classees were challenging, yet he gives you the tools to succeed. You will undoubtedly become a much better writer. Professor Hall is passionate about the material and sincere during office hours. Highly reccomended!

Have taken Macro Principles, Marx, and Institutional with Dr. Hall thus far and hope to take more before I'm finished. You must be a decent writer to get a good grade in his class, but he is very helpful in getting you there. The texts and reading are essential for writing the assigned papers as well. He has also written a few rec letters for me.

Hall will give you an "A" if you attend class every day. Your grade in EC201 is determined by two exams. Although, this can be daunting, if you attend class every day you will get 100 percent on both exams. Simply, Dr. Hall ensures your success as long as you attend class every day. The Q's I missed on the exam were from the days I missed class.

This was a very engaging and interesting class that I would recommend to any student. Professor Hall demands a higher level of work than most profs but he makes himself available to help in all assignments and is flexible to student interests. He is also very entertaining in his lectures. This was the most enjoyable class I have had at PSU.
