Prof. Werness is caring, sweet, & monotone. Almost fell asleep in lecture from voice daily. Does not give homework, instead does occasional quizzes. I think this makes tests and said quizzes harder, but I'm not "math-y". Wasn't the hardest class ever overall. Very available man. He posts notes and documents reviewed in class, which was helpful.

Professor Werness is a decent professor. He is very adequate in his teachings. Very boring teacher with dry lectures. I personally taught myself the material. Interesting semi-useful information material. You don't need to attend lectures to get an A!

Dr. Werness is a very nice guy who knows his stuff. Lectures can be a little dry but the tests aren't too hard if you study for them, gives out a study guide with everything you need to know as well as provides practice problems that are very similar to the problems found on exams.

This was such a tough class. He talks at you and doesn't explain how to do things. Barely any homework and when the tests came we didn't really know how to do anything. You're taught to use software in the labs but can't use it on the test. The tests definitely get harder through the semester.

Would NOT recommend taking this class or prof unless you have to. Lectures are often brief & confusing leaving students unprepared for exams & feeling like theyve learned nothing of value about DM or ML. Stupid small pts taken off on exams, nothing entered in Canvas all semester, unclear expectations on hw and project & 95% cutoff for an A

STATs in general, is not my strong suit and I thought that maybe Prof. Werness would help us in that but his class are lecture heavy and very monotone. He knows his stuff, but doesn't know how to keep the class engaging. I ended not going to class and learning off of the textbook that's provided to us and that was much better for me.

He has a monotone, so don't take him in the morning if you are a night person. He brings real-life examples to class, but it was boring. No power point notes, he writes everything on the whiteboard. I found the online textbook videos are easier to understand than his lecture. You can bring a 1-page note for the exam. Not much homework.

Dr. Werness is a decently nice guy (he can be real salty though in emails beware --> I skipped class once and he included in an email to me "we missed you in class"). His lectures are incredibly dull yet somehow still confusing and hard to follow. Tests aren't awful but the book problem sets don't help you prepare for the exams.

Dr. Werness made statistics, which is a very dry topic, understandable and relatable. He is very clear during his lectures and gives lot of practice and extra credit. While I do not like statistics, he made the class enjoyable and brought in real life examples to keep everyone interested. Highly recommend taking him.

Lots of readings, but explained in lecture so you don't need to do it. You'll need the book for homework though. Lectures are super boring and notes are confusing and all over the place. 1 page of notes front and back can be used on exam, but he grades his exams pretty tough. Overall he's a decent guy who will help you if you ask for it.

Great stats professor. Nice guy and willing to help you out. Lots of reading assigned but you will survive without it as he goes over it in class. His notes are all over the place, but still alright. For tests you get 1 full sheet front and back with any notes you want as well as a review sheet he gives you with every concept you will need.

Dr Werness is a great professor. I'll be honest, his lectures are super dry, but his projects really engage you and helped me learn the material really well. He doesn't grade the labs too tough (if you put in a good amt of time to work on them), but the exams are graded very tough. Memorize the definitions for conceptual things on the exam!

Nice guy, boring lectures. 3 tests and a final, decently hard but the page of notes he lets you use for the test helps. One of the easier stats teachers just boring.

Wetness tends to jump from topic to topic. He's very helpful but unorganized. Take notes in class and don't bother reading the textbook. There are three exams that were pretty easy - he lets you have a page of notes. There are only a few homework assignments. The class is boring, but take it with him, his sections of stats scored the highest.

Professor Werness was, TRULY, the most excruciatingly boring prof I have EVER had. I literally had to force myself to wake up in the morning to attend his class. I went everyday and took a ton of notes that I never ended up using. Gives 3 tests, a final exam, and one online and one paper problem set before every test that are graded for credit.

Professor Werness is a great professor. He's lectures are long and he's got quite the monotone voice but he says important stuff and if you're interested in programming then you'll listen. He teaches through examples and the homework is based off those examples. Very friendly. Very helpful. Tests can be tough if you don't do readings or listen.

Werness is the nicest guy you'll meet in the CISC department. While I still didn't get an A, I'm far from a programmer and I'll likely walk out with an A- or B+. For reference, I got a C in 131 with Jarvis so that should give anyone interested in this course and professor a decent frame of reference. Still learned a lot and enjoyed it.

Comment:
Werness is a good teacher, but he can be incredibly boring. When he talks, it sounds like someone reading a textbook. Also, nothing is online for his computer science class which is a bit frustrating. Other than that, he is a super nice guy and is willing to forgive a few late assignments.
