If you're worried about Friday morning classes like I was, don't be. Michelle is one of the best and coolest professors I've had at the U yet. The movies she selected were awesome, her writing guidelines were super helpful, and I'd literally laugh out loud at some of the things she says. Not only WOULD I take another class her but I WANT to!

I LOVED Michelle. Her class was engaging and fun, even over zoom! She's a hilarious woman, in the middle of lectures she went on tangents and said odd things like "Hello Kitty is like sinking into the void", it really made class interesting There were three short essays and you should watch the movies, not bad at all though. It's a fun, easy A!

Michelle really lacks direction in her teaching style. She jumps from topic to topic, most of which do not apply to the reading or what we were suppose to be learning about. I learned almost nothing concrete from the class. She is also quick to shut down any idea that she disagrees with, even though her class is discussion/opinion based.

I like the CSCL 3212W course very much. Through the study of this class, I have a better understanding of what a documentary is. I also like group projects. I think Dr. Michelle is the most patient and interesting professor I have ever met. I feel excited to take this class every week.

I am not really into documentaries (unrelated major). However, this class was really fun! The class is all about watching and interpreting documentaries. Who doesn't enjoy watching films for the majority of a class period? The readings only need to be done for the two essays this class has, and there isn't really a final. There's just a project.

Michelle is great and is really well-respected in an unexpected way. She's humble and eccentric but when she speaks, even through her jokes, she commands the room. You know she's brilliant and I wish I could pocket the ming blowing things she says and remember. You don't come across people liked this very often.

I feel like this class kind of lacked direction. I can't say I'll take away from it in the form of concrete knowledge, but as far as discussing sex and culture, I think it's a great course and v easy for a writing intensive. Michelle has so many interesting things to say and is so wise and fun and accommodating and kinda crazy. Would def recommend!

Lekas should get an award for the on-line transition. This is my only class after the on-line change where I am still learning and interested and having a good time too. I almost don't want the class to end.

Comment:
Lekas loves theory and discussions. You're required to read articles that have theories on the meanings of the film. You have to adjust and adapt your thinking to align with these theories or else you will struggle to write papers. There are a total of 3 and 1 group presentation. The grading is not clear and she doesn't give great feedback.

Michelle is a good lecturer, but would go off into tangents about something we never were tested on or needed to know, so sometimes it got boring. The class itself was fun, you can tell she is passionate about her job and helping you learn. I recommend making use of her and TA office hours, their feedback for essays is essential for a good grade.

Am taking another class with Michelle in the spring. She has her own personality, but she is clear and open to questions and changes and she has a ton of film knowledge She is the ONLY prof I have had at UM who really actually teaches writing in a useful way

This was a cool class -- loved the lectures and films and Michelle was funny and supportive. Very good office hours, too. My TA was checked out -- discussion was kinda weird and grades always late. Lekas was great tho.

The grading and critique of this class was like nothing I've seen before. I got zero feedback on two of my three papers. Grading standards are super biased and there is no real clear explanation of what is expected, despite her raving about doing so. Don't take for an easy Arts/Humanities.

Michelle was so funny. Her lectures really made the early start time worth it for me. My TA was awful, so if you don't get a good TA, the class won't be great. Content is somewhat easy. 2 essays (each worth 20% of your grade), film journals (12%), quiz (3%), lecture and discussion attendance (10% each), and a final essay (25%).
