Been a few years but I was at a meeting in CA and met an old classmate and we both started talking about Dr. Robert Burns. It's funny but we both remember his 7 Ps of Speech Anxiety Reduction, his "global perspective" on communication (which has helped us in the entertainment industry) and the letters he wrote to open doors for us. He is THE best!

Been a few years since I had the professor but his course was my best college experience in 4 years at Emerson. Still use his 7 Ps of Speech Anxiety Reduction and tell people I work with we must be "confident, competent, coherent, and credible communicators!" His 4 Cs are always operative in my world! Outstanding educator! Still miss his course!

It's been 10 years since I took Robert Burns but I returned to Boston to visits some friends and to look up the professor. His course was one I will always cherish. But most especially I will always cherish him. He helped me overcome my speech anxiety and he wrote me an incredible reference. Today I am an entertainment spokesperson. He is superb.

Had Prof B in 2003 & his course still lives in me. He is one of the profs I recall with delight & I owe him so much. I am a New Yorker & a Jew & because of Prof B I have embraced my faith & pursued Holocaust Studies for my Grad work. My parents told me about his Dad & family & now I know why he taught us speech with such passion. Thanks Prof B!

Had Prof. B in 2005 and started searching for him and heard he was now teaching out of State. He was THE best thing that ever happened to me at Emerson. He did not push his political views on us. Many of us were closet Conservatives and although I knew he was related to the Kennedy's, I also knew he was a moderate and open to EVERYONE! TREMENDOUS!

Came back here to rectify something I wrote about Dr. Burns when I was angry, immature, and spoiled. I had him during 2004 and wrote some nasty things here. He gave me a B+ instead of an A; that upset me. It is years later and I realize I always got what I wanted and when I didn't, I attacked. He was outstanding and I still use his speech methods.

My cousin and I both had Dr. Burns in 2005 and came back to say thank you. One of my other profs told us he left a few years ago. He wrote us letters for jobs and we owe him a lot. I wish I knew where he was. His classes were our finest at Emerson and his insights in speech and communication will live with us forever. An exceptional professor.

Prof. B. knows his stuff when it comes to the speech and communication fields. He was very helpful to me when my Dad died by giving me extra weeks to complete my work and by taking the time to listen. Teaching is a calling to him. I recommended him to everyone and miss his course. I know he left Emerson in 07 and stayed at Emerson because of him.

Emerson College is a strange school. It could not define itself. My best experience at Emerson was Prof Robert Burns and his intro to comm course. He was quite defined in his course and I remember his colorful syllabus and his ability to calm my fears, get me focused, and eager to speak. Had him in 2005 and I will NEVER forget him. GREAT TEACHER!

My buddy Nick told me Prof B left Emerson. He also came back to say thank you to Prof B for all his help and great letter of endorsement. He wrote me a letter in 2005 that still opens doors for me. He and Profs Glenn and Anderson were wonderful at Emerson. Wish I could tell Prof B that his course, insights and letter made the difference for me.

Prof. B. kept me at Emerson when I was ready to leave. He helped me grow into a competent speaker and helped me get my schedule corrected when others in the Dept. were incompetent. Prof. B's Comm. course changed my whole educational life. I still use his 4 Cs Plus 4 for explaining my global perspective on communication. He left Emerson. What a loss

Stopped into Emerson to find my old prof, Robert Burns. I had an amazing experience with him. I stopped "hating" my teachers and saw how genuine and dedicated he was and decided to emulate his qualities. He is a superior teacher and some of my immature classmates needed to grow up. I left Emerson. So did he. Too bad. The students lost a great prof.

Been out of Emerson for a few years and although I still question my selection of this college, I have never forgotten the "guy" who took the time to help me outside the classroom, write a letter that opened an amazing door in Hollywood, and made me see the importance of his field. Because of him I am now a superior speaker and business person.

Came back to say thank you to my best prof at Emerson and was told he left. I had him for the basic Intro. Comm course and thought it would be boring and uneventful; that is what I was told by most who had taken it with others. Prof. B. walked in and made me pause and reconsider my whole approach to communication. I will never forget his class.

Started thinking about my profs. at Emerson this Thanksgiving and now that I am gone I realize there were a couple who made me want to achieve at Emerson. I am a writer and with Prof Burns I grew into an outstanding oral communicator. He worked with me privately and I told my Dad, a very successful executive, Prof. Burns was the difference for me!!

He really listens to his students. My work today is better because of his classes. His letters which opened big doors for me. I'm grateful I had him at Emerson College.

THe first day your going to listen to this man speak and absolutley think he is going senile. He isnt..i dont think. Probably one of the most helpful teachers if you even need it. Class is very easy, just have to be able to stand listening to him talk. pretty interestign stuff. learned alot. take him if your interested in pub. speaking.

This guy has a heart of gold, he means the very best for his students in everything he does. That said, I dont like his class. He takes 20 minutes to say something that should take 5. He tells a lot of long rambling storys. But its easy to get an A if you want one and do your work. Hes nice, fair, but bores me. Good if you you like quirky stories.

Communications: He is wierd...I'll give you that, but he is very genuine. He truly loves speaking and helping people overcome their fear of public speaking. Great teacher and I'm glad I had him at Emerson. Plus...use him for a recomendation if he liked u. Great review. If he doesn't like you it is probably for a reason. you have to work hard.
