boring lectures and readings, but you have to do both if you want to do well on tests. all her lectures blend together b/c they are all the same format: sleep inducing dribble. test questions had weird wording and were confusing. not a super hard prof but you will be pulling your hair out every lecture and exam.

Lectures are important, as well as the readings. The exam questions are directly from the lectures. No trick questions. She has well organized power points that she posts after lecture.

She almost made me change my major to sociology. Her lectures were surprisingly good but discussions were a drag. The papers aren't too bad either. She likes trick questions on the exams, but you get used to them after seeing the first one. Loved the class

Easiest A ever. Two joke papers, and the tests are only multiple choice.

Ruth is a terrific lecturer. All notes are power point style. Quite a bit of reading but it's mostly interesting. Some test questions are difficult. I definitely recommend Soc 134 and Ruth Turley!

I loved this class! She was a great prof and the material was really interesting. The discussion was great as well. I definitely recommend this for the ethnic studies requirement

Take the class if you need an ethic studies credit but know that it will be very boring and pander to freshmen.

Clear powerpoints for each lecture, but they're not posted, so you have to go. Discussion attendance is mandatory, but Ryan is an awesome TA. 3 exams, 2 papers...paper guidelines are a little strict, but overall fair class.

Great class to fulfill ethnic studies requirement. I really enjoyed the class. I learned a lot and got an A. Go to all of the lectures. Exams are based primarily on lecture.

Prof Turley is an amazing professor, she's great at teaching and gives out reviews before the exams. Her exams are very reasonable, multiple choice and non-cumulative. The papers are more dependent on the TAs though. Basically if you put in the basic amount of effort, you will receive a good grade and learn a lot in this class as well!

The class was pretty interesting and the TAs were great. Prof. Turley is a very dedicated person, coming back a week after having a baby to finish up the lectures. Very easy to talk to and knows the material she teaches very well.

Two tests, two short papers, and a final. Pretty easy. Tests are mostly on lectures--but, if you're intelligent you can do the crossword and the sudoku and even some other homework at the same time and still get an A. You'll even learn a few things and get ethnic studies out of the way.

Great and challenging class -- she really helped me out with my first year and I found her class getting me to think outside the box. Being of ethnic status, the class opened my eyes to some of the realities that I don't notice on a daily basis.

The class is decently easy, although the exams are short so a few wrong can bring you down a lot. Still, easy material, if you have a nice TA its all gravy. I hear the bad TA's can screw your grade, so make sure you get a good one...

the class gets long but its pretty basic for a 4 credit class. everything depends on your TA so don't get stuck with a powerhungry hardass :) tests arent too bad with the majority of questions coming right from lecture or the readings

This was my favorite class because I got to do the crossword puzzle the whole time. Her lectures were one-sided, she was extremely unhelpful when preparing for exams AND her test questions were horribly worded. Easy class but SO not worth sitting through if she's the prof. Absolute agony.
