Comment:
This is a literary theory and criticism class; he spent the semester teaching philosophy and theology. In addition, you can't suggest he might be wrong while he is teaching his beliefs to you; he will argue you down and talk above you in obfuscating ways. I am worse off as an English major because he teaches this course like a preacher before mass.

Kimball has an incredibly entertaining teaching style. I dreaded this class after first seeing the syllabus but came to look forward to it. Participate as much as possible in class discussions and you'll do well. He requires 7+ thesis papers that're due "portfolio style" end of semester. Manage your time well to avoid a heavy finals week.

Bro is obsessed with infanticide. He literally wrote a book on it. He has like 12 books on it in his office. Also, eating babies. Cool guy though. Super tough class.

As a professor, if you're requiring your students to read 60+ pages of various reading materials and be prepared for a reading quiz that tests not comprehension but the retention of the most minute details, maybe you're not the best guy to take a class with. Smart guy, but the workload is crazy, esp if you're taking 15+ credits and work a job.

I wish I discovered Professor Kimball earlier, because I would have taken as many classes with him as possible! He is extremely intelligent and his class was well structured. The things I took away from his class extend beyond just passing. I look forward to applying what I gained from his class to real life situations and my career as a writer.

Dr. Kimball's theories and insights helped shape the writer I am today. I could have easily co-dedicated him in my first novel Minor King.

Dr. Kimball is an inspiration. Most insightful, intellectual professor I have ever encountered. He will force you to read hyper literally, creating an out of the box thinking process for every piece of literature you interpret. Kimball is extremely nice and patient with his students. He will change your world. Remember: It's all about Infanticide!

This was my second class with Kimball. He will blow your mind in lectures and actually make you think. Take copious notes. Easy to approach and a wonderful human being all around. And remember: it's all about infanticide.

he does a very good job explaining classic texts and does involve examples from the books. Implements a variety of learning methods, but he has a really bad attitude towards certain students based on his conservative attitude, but still better than the nazi in the phiosophy dept.

By far the most educationally enriching class I've ever taken. You must read and take VERY good notes to excel, but as long as you meet Kimball halfway he will take you on a life changing journey. Seriously, he will turn your thought processes around. Very fair and easy grader. Also the most compassionate man I've ever met. TAKE HIM.

Comment:
Kimball is clearly intelligent, but each class is confusing, the lectures are distantly connected to the texts, and he speaks very circularly. Midterm portfolio consists of all class notes and 5 short essays, final portfolio consists of class notes and 7 additional essays. I haven't learned much at all.

Dr. Kimball is so compelling, caring and compassionate, an all-around great guy and teacher! He said in an interview in the school paper once that he considers the classroom to be a sacred space, and you can see this when he's teaching. He really cares about what he's doing. Very helpful if you get lost, too.

I cant say enough about how amazing this man is. He is an incredible instructor. I took him for Lit Interp, and that was by far the most mind blowing class I have ever taken. I learned more in that one class then I did in the other 3 I took combined. So interesting and engaging, Kimball really gets you excited about the material. Take him!

Comment:
Have a smiley face and chili pepper, Dr. Kimball. Classes are fun. But it's hard to read his facial expressions so it's kind of weird talking to him one-on-one. But just ask any question and he'll answer. Great encouragement on papers. Just follow along and don't BS the paper and it should be an easy B at least.
