You have to get into her lectures to be interested in the subject. STUDY THE TEXTBOOK thoroughly and work hard on the research paper. Study notes too and take them very neatly because the notes are very visual.

Lectures were pretty boring. You must maintain a 70% and complete all assigments to contract for the next grade. Her tests were somewhat difficult. Look over the information on her study guide (on her website); you should be fine. There are a few essays and a research paper. Do your best to contract for the A; it actually winds up being less work.

Excellent teacher, very helpful. She just lectured a lot. If you need to miss class often just read your book, and show up on test dates. You do chapter quizzes online, and a couple essays in the semester. Her tests are hard, and she does a new contracting for grades system that I didn't like where you need to pass the tests to pass the class!

She is an excellent professor. She is passionate about sociology and makes the material interesting to learn. She does a lot of charts and drawings on the whiteboard, which makes the material even easier to understand. The only downside is that she explains things so simply, that the exams are hard because they use the book vocabulary.

i loved woodside. i actually think that shes a great teacher, shes very nice really helpful. she does ramble a little bit but if ppl actually pay attention to what she says its all relevant to socio. the final paper was intresting to do :) had alot of fun with that and the tests are pretty easy if you actually study lol

Good teacher. She was helpful, she was straight forward. A bit sketchy at first, but very funny. Her Exams were hard, she covered loads of information in each exam. I only wish she had a study guide that was a bit more worthwhile. She is a nice woman, a relatively easy grader, and she gives students plenty of wiggle room and opportunities. . .

Had her and do NOT recommend her AT ALL she is not clear, rarely touchy about sociology, and always talked about the term paper that had nothing to do with Sociology. After we turned in our term paper she used our interviews we did for our paper FOR HER OWN USE!!!!

I knew it, the teacher read only the Reflective and Best Essays (Grammar and Content). Also Presentation/Impression (make sure it looks cleat and neat)+ Table of Contents page, put your essays in reverse order ( from newest to the oldest), make sure you have titles of your essay + original due date.Make sure you have them all 6 essays +2 activities

From the beginning of the semester we've been told about the Essay Portfolio we need to write. It was unclear how the teacher will grade the Portfolio. To bring some light for next semester students here it is her expectations:

If you want to get a good grade in Sociology don't take Woodside! I only took her class because it was a learning community with Professor Gopal. Every lecture I could barely hear a word she said because she doesn't project her voice at all. She doesn't give clear explanations about the work that she wants and punishes the students for not knowing.

Very easy class. However assignment dates are not clearly pointed out and there is no real class schedule of learning. Its "organic learning" as she says. I am forcing my boy friend to take this class because it is so eye opening.

This is a hard class to begin with. Race& Ethnicity is a tricky subject and she pulls it off without any difficulty among student. The tests are REALLY HARD! but you leave her class with more compassion toward people around you. An EXTREAMLY emotional class for me.

I went into this class thinking - Marriage?, Family? I've done it so this should be a no brainer. WRONG!! She is hard BUT she pushes you to think outside the box. If you REALLY get into it you can get a decent grade and see things in different light.

Wonderful Teacher! She honestly cares whether your retaining the information or not. If you are doing poorly on the tests she will meet with you outside of class and help you learn what to study. The class isn't necessarily hard, I recommend reading the material and attending ALL classes. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to pass. TAKE HER!

Incredible teacher. Wears her heart on her sleeve.I cannot believe people think she is hard. I am not a writer and still got a B on a 15 page paper. She does not hide her passion for what she teaches, but she made me want to be a better person and look at the world around me in a new light. How many teachers do that?? DR. WOODSIDE YOU ROCK!!!
