Comment:

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If I could rate her a negative number I would. This is by far the worst professor I have taken at UCI up to date, and that's saying alot considering God tested my will with Edwards in Gen chem labs. Get ready to feel like you're not learning anything. She copies and pastes the textbook onto her slides. Just self-teach yourself.

the lectures are just her reading off of slides. she makes you feel bad for asking to explain something in office hours. so many hw problems that are not even like the exams. avoid at all costs.

Professor Smecker-Hane was one of the most caring professors I've ever had. It was definitely a hard class, but I learned a lot.

I've never seen a professor be so confrontational with their students. Rude in office hours. Her lectures essentially just read from the textbook. If attendance and participation in lecture/discussion weren't mandatory, I would recommend just self-teaching. Get Chegg or something to help with homework. Avoid Tammy at all costs.

The book's useless. You will not be tested on any concepts, but rather purely on math. You will not learn physics this quarter, but math. Prepare to spend most of your life trying to figure out how to solve a single problem and then struggling to find the time to go over it again. Master the HW and perhaps you will survive the Trial of Tammy.

Her exams were hard & she claims it comes from the hw assignments which they DON'T FYI. She reused prerecorded lectures from last quarter & expected us to watch them and learn. The physics department needs to hire another physics professor that can actually teach. I can't believe she got paid to "teach" this course by doing NOTHING AT ALL!

I used the book to teach myself because her lectures were pretty useless (she TYPED out the solution to each problem presented in the slides). This was 3C so the material wasn't too bad even though it was completely self-taught, but if it was 3B I probably would kms. The curve was also very unhelpful since the majority of students did average.

Comment:

COVID made her already hard lectures harder to learn; I did NOTHING for this class and I still got a B+. I got 97% on the hw and 85% on the tests but NOT BC I ACTUALLY LEARNED. She (unintentionally?) put clues to the right answer on the final/mt so it was easier to guess. (ie. 29 24 19 the answer has a 2 and a 9; its 29) also no actual curve :(

She is completely insensitive to students affected by the current pandemic but is more than happy to take advantage of the situation herself by reusing previous lecture videos instead of actually teaching the class. Avoid at all costs.

"If you can't teach, you don't understand" which is very ironic since she has PHD in Physics from Hopkins yet can't teach physics to save her life. She genuinely does not care for students. She can't even put in the time to lecture the information but uses old lectures instead. Laziest person, not just professors, PERSON, ever. Avoid at all costs.

literally terrible, don't take her. she does not care about her students given the fact that we are going through a PANDEMIC and a civil movement. most kids are anxious, distraught, and can't focus with everything happening and she does not care. at all. btw her lectures are just podcasts from another in-person quarter and make ZERO sense online

Very uncaring. Used recorded lectures that were from in-person from last quarter, I don't know about you but teaching in-person and online is completely different. It made it more challenging to watch the video and understand concepts since we couldn't see her explanations in person. Horrible, avoid her at all costs

The most uncaring professor I have seen at UCI, literally did nothing to accommodate for the riots going on right now, too much hw and files were very unorganized. Take any other professor please. I beg you.

Personally, I don't blame her for a lot of things regarding the pandemic circumstances. Anyway, her grading scheme makes it easier to do well in the class (do well on your homework!). Her tests are very fair and straightforward and are easier than discussion and homework questions, so just study those. She'll walk you through questions in OH too.

Had her for Phys 3B and was tortured. Then Covid-19 happened and I put her as the worst teacher I have ever had. Had to take her again for 3C due to scheduling conflicts. Surprisingly, her distance learning course is really good. Lects. are video and scheduled classes are office hours. She is a good professor for the small-class format.

tammy put all wrong options on a MC question! they removed the question, but didn't offer even partial credit to people who did the math right and should've gotten the points if she hadn't messed up. from my experience and from what i've heard, you can pretty much expect her to screw up tests and make no attempt to find a fair solution.
