Groves was bad 15 yrs ago when I had him in a graduate microecon class. I see he is still bad in teaching. He is famous for his Groves Mechanism in economics but his teaching is really bad. I came out of class know less than I went in and I was a grad student in econ. He was confusing. I wish this site was there 15 years ago

Worst ever, and it's a shame because the field is interesting. The book also sucks, save your money. The only good thing is that it's taught as a grad course for Scripps students too, who doesn't know any economics (=nice curve!). Easy A if you put in a little bit of effort.

Worst class I've ever taken. I went to all classes, sections, and office hours and I barely passed. I believe your prior knowledge of the subject will determine your grade on exams. He gets confused often and cannot make a valid point to save his life. It's terrible that he is the director of the subject and he has tenure.. he needs to retire.

Avoid taking this Professor. You won't be able to hear a word he says or read his handwriting. He is a terrible teacher with a crappy textbook. Cannot prepare for exams beforehand because you won't know what to expect or understand the material even after spending forever studying. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Worthless lectures. Writes complicated theoretical stuff on board, worthless. This class is just econ 2 rehash. MB=MC drained into your brain 10,000,000 times. Weak class, and his teaching doensn't help. The material is not hard, no calc, its just confusing with its oversimplified assumptions.

WARNING: Disregard what the person said below. I agree with the other two people. Groves is the worst teacher I ever had. I saw his grade distribution and he only gives 10% As. I was top 15% and still didn't crack an A. he lets alot of people pass. So if you care about your gpa dont take him. hes not helpful at all. homework does not represent exam

I liked groves. His lectures went kind of fast, but he didn't require you to know everything. He just wants you to get the concepts, which weren't difficult. Honestly, a lot of it was common sense. The tests were pretty different from the homework, but I studied 6-7 hours tops for the final and I got an A. Interesting topic, too.

This professor sucks. the problem set are not representative of the course material. u may think its a easy class, but think again. you will have to work hard, yet suffer because his tests are random and not representative of the homework. you can't understand him, hes an arrogant man, not helpful. dont take

Do Not take this professor. He is the worst I ever taken. His tests are not representative of the problem set. He makes his final impossible. This is not an easy class. Not worth to take. Professor has a lisp and is incomprehensible. Avoid taking him at all cost

This professor is amazing. He knows his material well. His style of lecture facilitates note-taking and the material he covers in class is crucial for his exams; therefore, class attendance is important. Professor Groves is also very helpful and friendly in office hours. He expresses interest in his students, and genuinely cares. =)

OK teacher. He teaches straight from the book, almost verbatim. Material is boring but isn't his fault (Econ 1 again, but with calculus). I wish he had applied the material to recent news or expressed his opinions more often. He did this before class sometimes and it was very interesting b/c he's a well educated guy. HARD tests, all definitions.

I love the subject, and this course was very easy. I never bought the book and spent about 10 hours TOTAL (including all problem sets, midterms, and exam) studying and got a B. The lectures were worthwhile and he was a pleasure to learn from.

Clickers! get one. it's like 10% of your grade. Study! do it. You will struggle, but you will pass. Know Calc! You cannot get around the math with Grovesy, he won't have any of that. He is an average lecturer but a stellar professor if you actively participate.

Teddy is solid. He knows his stuff, but when he makes a mistake, he's always willing to address it. That said, he's not so great during office hours-kinda arrogant. His lectures are a bit boring (uses textbook's presentations), but when he uses the chalkboard, he's fairly lively. He used "clickers" to measure attendance in WI07. Might do it again.

Proof that being smart does not mean that one can teach. Defintely a smart guy but a horrible professor. Reads off notes, goes off on tangents, taking his class was the worst mistake last quarter. Berates you when you are late, saying you are a distraction but his comments as you walk in are even more distracting than the tardy student. He gets F!

Spiteful, lectures somewhat disjointed and extremely boring. He yells at you if you're late but doesn't realize that by doing so makes many times more of a distraction than it ever should have been.

Class sucks, and TAs suck. Especially the messed up grading. The professor relies on the TA to make up discussion questions that are "similar" to the midterm, but the TAs did not really go over them in sessions. Professor did not even provide an answer key for the exam! Overall, class and professor both suck
