Professor DeGout made me rethink my major; and not in a good way. She was extremely disorganized, did not make her assignments clear, and her lectures were snore inducing. If you have to take her, power through, there are much better professors in the future.

Dr. DeGout is a very nice, soft-spoken woman. She means well and really knows the content of what she is teaching. She, however, is VERY unclear in her directions for assignments and tells you what you she expected you to do after the fact. Bother her with questions about every assignment and get EXPLICIT instructions. Do this and an A is possible.

Lets just say DO NOT take this professor. If you are looking for an easy A in a African American CLuster class, you won't receive it here. She grades extremely hard& gives bull crap writingz& reading assignments weekly. Shes a sweet lady but takes her work seriously. if you're interested in the class take another prof.! Youll regret it if you dont.

Very nice lady. Class may not be the most exciting but is an easy A if you attend class, do the assignments, and participate. Gives a lot of work but do not expect her to give all of the assignments back to you. She loves when people participate

Very boring & soft spoken but very nice. Very straight-forward. She gives u note throughout the course so for test and assignment, basically REPEAT b/c her opinion is the only one that MATTERS! She doesnt give back work on time but ur able to re-write papers. Definitely not impossible to get an A or B tho. She's not all that bad

This class was among the worst that I have taken all year. She is very soft-spoken and polite but she is bland and boring. Also she never returned any work on time until the exam reading period whent he final was due. I highly do not recommend taking this professor. Many students did not even know their grade by the end of the semester.

I was excited first to take the course in Caribbean lit but she never includes the students into the discussions....class was dry and a c**** to attend especially when attendance was mandatory...very nice but soft spoken...i struggled to hear her!....must read books in order to pass the class...tests were really specific even though she always wasn

She's a nice woman.I think. However the classes are boring and attendence is mandatory which only helps making this class a chore. Exams are so picky and tedious you'll probably want to hit her when you read it.Spent a lot of money on because she has a copy packet and you have to pay to copy what you need for class.Had to buy a lot of books too.

Very nice lady. However, she is very well-versed in literature which makes the course hard sometimes because if you don't agree with her opinion, she will not honor yours. She gives out arduous take home tests which are so long that she can hardly return them on time. Just remember to GO TO CLASS because it is a big part of your grade.

She's really nice, but she is just really boring and talks to much at times. The discussion doesn't go too many places because she's the gatekeeper of it many times and doesn't give students liberty to be too opinionated. If you like exciting discussion and thinking outside of the box I recommend you NOT take her.

She's a nice person but teaching was not her calling. Exams are ridiculous and tedious especially for people who don't read the material. Even though they are take home and only like 7 questions long, each question has about 10 within it. She is so soft spoken it can really put you to sleep. Not recommended.

Very sweet person. Sometimes struggles to get her point across, resulting in vagueness. However, she is very willing to clarify once you let her know that you are not following. Exams can be tedious, moreso if you have not read the literature. However, most exams were take home. Do the readings, participate in class and you can easily get an A.

She's sweet and very approachable. However, a little too soft-spoken. She seems nervous alot. Class is rather dry.
