I loved him!! He was really fun be in class with and gave a lot of opportunities to participate which is what you need when learning a new language. Watch out though, if he notices that the class is getting A's on everything, he will pick up the pace.

Comment:

Sensei is the man. He rolls sushi, egg rolls, and occasionally other things. His class is a great time and his stories are the best. That being said, he can get rather confusing and his class is quite challenging. Expectations are unclear and there is never quite a "right" answer.

This class was deceivingly hard. The class consisted of him talking about Japan and it was very hard to tell which stuff was important and which was not. It turned out that you need to know most of the things that seem unimportant in his somewhat directionless lectures. The class is harder than you would think but it's still not bad though.

He can be a bit disorganized at times, but his fantastic stories more than make up for it. Classes are usually fun. Tough final, but he seems to grade more on overall performance for the semester rather than a single exam score. Great guy, excellent BBQ skills.

I had professor Aizawa for Japanese over 15 years ago! I loved his classes His laid-back style made the subject less intimidating. I still remember the first dialogue, "Tanaka-san, wakarimasu ka?" Thanks prof. Aizawa for inspiring my love of language!

He's probably a good guy to hang out with and hear stories from. But the class is pretty boring and quite a bit of the reading is no better. Tests require really detailed reading and a bit of luck. Hirata's probably better.

Really funny at times, but material is pretty boring. A bunch of reading, which you sometimes get quizzed on. Not terribly hard but I'm sure there are better core classes. He'd probably be a cool guy to drink with and have him tell you stories.

This guy is may be a great scholar, but he obviously can’t teach. He’s NEVER clear about any of his assignments and his lectures are PAINFULLY boring. Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t know your name on the last week of class. Also, a few pop quizzes will end up counting for 35% of your grade. Avoid like the plague.

HORRIBLE professor for core Japan. He just rambles about random stuff. He is also the most boring professor ever and he assigns a lot of reading. He might be good for languages, but stay away from his core class unless you're really interested in Japan.
