Comment:

I took Phy20A/L and Phy20B/L. They were a hard course since these are calculus-based. The lab is fun and I could finish it earlier. I enjoyed the lectures with some challenging questions. Exams are moderately hard, but he helped to at least pass the class. Actually, I got motivated to get myself better.

Comment:

Professor Kohan is a nice and funny guy, but he's not a great Lab teacher. He expects typed lab reports every week and grades them pretty tough without explaining what he expects beforehand. 5% off for every "mistake" he finds. Overall, not a pleasant class. Found myself stressing over a dumb class. Good thing it's only 1 credit.

15-30 minute lecture in which he covers a whole chapter with 6 separate section in a 4 hour class... Then proceeds to do textbook problems which are difficult, confusing, and fails to teach the material needed for it. He lost 2 Quizzes and a test. Tests are 5 question (100pts) with no partial credit and will grade correct answers wrong. 51% dropped

Comment:

Get ready to read the book over and over again. His lectures are bad as he spends about an hour (sometimes 20-30 mins) on each chapter and does problems for the rest of the class. It's a 4 Hour class... He also doesn't explain the concepts well. Make sure you understand physics really well before you take him or you will have a difficult time.

Lectures are garbage. Doesn't provide much of a study guide to help you prepare for a test. Poor at explaining. The only people who did well in that class were people who took the same course (but without calculus). In order to pass you have to do as many problems as you can and practice over and over. This was my first ever physics course too.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I took it as a summer course and thought it would be an easy A. I was so wrong. He wants everyone to succeed but makes it almost impossible to do. Be prepared to do a lot of reading. You are going to have to memorize the book. Study guides and quizzes are a hit or miss. IN THE END DONT TAKE THIS CLASS.

I leave the tag "prepare to read" because you will be learning all of the information that he is supposed to provided on your own. First off, he does not take his job seriously. I quote "I don't check my school email often" (his job). He also doesn't feel it's his obligation to provide study material. He has been the worst teacher I have ever had.

He said the textbook was optional, then based all the tests and quizzes on the textbook. His lecture was tedious, and I had to doodle to stay awake. He's nice enough, but he must have graded on a curve because I have no clue how I did so well. Although, he was thrown into the class last minute. Even so, horrible experience.

Do not. Take a class from this man. His lectures and powerpoints do not match the test at all. I showed up for every class, and still did not get an exceptional grade because of this. Save yourself the time and take an astronomy class from another teacher. This man made me start hating astronomy. Do not take a class with him. Very confusing.

This was not the professor that was originally assigned to the class. This was his first time teaching astronomy and it was bit obvious. He is a really nice teacher and he can crack a joke here and there. He wants everyone to pass. Uploads lecture slides to D2L for each chapter along with chapter questions that are the exact questions on the test.

Show up, do your labs, go home. Very simple and straightforward class. Find a good group, because there is too much work for one person, and having a good group makes it so much easier. Most labs end over an hour early. Highly recommended.

Great teacher, you get through the lab in only an hour and a half too! Clear about what he wants from his students and as long as you come to class you're going to get a good grade, I disagree with these negative comments entirely.

This is a hard class, but NOT if you study. You DO need to read the book, he is not going to give you all of the answers...you actually have to do some work on your own. The students who complained, didn't show up for class, didn't read the chapter, etc. You can't complain if you don't put in the effort. It's NOT always the teacher's fault!!

Physics is not an easy class, but I like his idea when he made an analogy between physics mechanics and physics electromagnetism.His lab class is interesting.His test is very hard.But he usually give a break so everyone can pass the class. If you like challenge, this class might does to you. NOT hard to get 'B' in this class!
