He doesn't really teach, we just go over homework in class. The only good thing about his 421 class was the final was a take home. He also allows students to insult other students in class. He failed the same course as an undergrad by the way.

Readings and online posting for each class period, and 3 papers due. You can't fart out a half-assed paper at the last minute and expect to get an A on it in this class. Classroom discussions and online postings are helpful in fully understanding the readings.

All papers written for any of Chamber-sensei's class (JPN401 or SLC421) are a MAX of 350 words. And in those 350 words you have to make your argument, cite supporting evidence from the text and quote a secondary source (Donald Keene). Not only that, he has extremely archaic views on grammar, like using "but" instead of "however".

Chambers-sensei is awesome. He really cares about his students and he makes you interested in the material. I really feel like I learned a lot from him. He's very hard and you do a lot of work for him but it's worth it!

I've always been into Japanese but his literature class gave me a new passion and light to my studies of the language.
