Bruce is such a genuine and caring guy. If you love jazz, you'll love to play with Bruce! His knowledge of jazz is limitless, and he often goes on tangents about harmony which are funny. As long as you practice what he gives you and learn the tune(s) he asks you to learn for the following week, then you're set, and a good student in his books :)

Easily distracted. Noodles on the piano and goes on tangents like "check out this cool lick!" Most lessons, he puts a random chart or exercise in front of you with no relation to what you want to learn. Doesn't push the student. Very focused on solo vocabulary. Doesn't seem to know much outside of jazz. Don't take if you aren't self-motivated.

Bruce is a great teacher! He's a great player and knows all the stuff. His comments and theory materials on jazz improvisation made my playing lot better. He's also very friendly and kind person.

Bruce is a good guy who cares about your progress. If you are above your current PIBS level (I started with him first semester), he will challenge you beyond the final exam material, and he will expect you to practice material he gives you regardless. Friendly, easy to talk to. I decided to continue studying with him through my second semester.

Overall a good teacher, keeps things simple and structured, and generally lets you explore your instrument while he guides you along the way. I was thinking about not taking a final test and taking an incomplete and making it up next semester, and he seemed to lose some respect for me when I told him that.

An incredible player, but not very helpful. Moves too fast, and seems bored when you ask him to slow down or explain further. Seemed disinterested in teaching me, and wasted a lot of time making lunch plans on his cell phone and checking email during my lesson time. 30 minutes is a short time to have wasted on personal business.
