I have taken every class pietrykowski teaches including an independent study, take that as you will. I will say that the labor economics seminar course has been the most enjoyable. It is reading and writing intensive with a quantitative research project. Take 305 before or at the same time. 20% of the grade is participation so be ready to speak up.

Taking a class with this professor makes you feel that you are attending an ivy league school. The academic rigor of his classes qualifies you to become very well versed in the subject matter. Heterodox economics is an essential class to take after taking many classes that are based on the analysis of neoclassical economics.

I highly recommend taking ECON201 with Professor Pietrykowski. As long as you show up to class and take good notes you should be all set for the exams. He wants his students to succeed and he answers questions very clearly. I barely used the book.

Pietrykowski is an awesome professor. He is very kind and understanding when you don't understand something and is very accommodating if you need help outside class. Lecture can be a little dry, but that's mostly due to the subject in my opinion. Exams for the class I took him for were very difficult but they were take home. Definitely not biased

There are 5 exams and most of them have essay portions. He grades pretty lenient until it's weird multiple choice questions. He wants his students to succeed. Participation matters and he doesn't use canvas so you have to figure it out. Make sure you listen to lectures and the book is pointless.

Just show up to class, pay attention, and write what he puts on the board. Make sure you understand the concepts and it's an easy A. I didn't even open the book. Your grade is based on 5 exams.

Pietrykowski is a great guy and a terrific professor. This class is reading incentive and the exams are take homes. He leans to the left, which is fine, but he definitely showed favoritism as we progressed through the different approaches. He is vary fair and willing to let opposing views run the discussion. Be ready to speak up.

He's awesome. Great speaker and communicator. His class is a bit unorthodox, it's hard to explain, but the style and step up of the course really allowed me to understand the material. Don't get the Textbook, it's a wait and he even said so. Test are the average difficulty. Study, show up, be engaged, and you'll do fine.

Fairly easy class, tests are based completely off lectures. Therefore, if you show up and take notes (which he writes directly on the board) you will pass with flying colors.

He is one of the best professors you will ever have. 95% of the test question come from his lecture, so you have to come to class. Seriously, if you miss class you won't do well. Somehow he manages to make Econ very interesting. If you review your notes and skim the chapter, you should get an A on all the tests. He's the best, TAKE HIM!!!

This professor knows the subject he teaches very well and demonstrates that knowledge when he teaches. His lectures are interesting, fun, and informational. Don't skip class, you won't pass. He recommends you read the book; however, if you understand the lectures, you're in good shape. I highly recommend him to any student. He makes economics easy.

I would highly recommend taking an economics course with Professor Pietrykowski. He keeps it relevant and interesting to students by using current events and shows how they apply to course content. He does have a participation grade but he is the fairest grader I have ever taken. He will grade the class whatever way allows them to succeed.

Great teacher, very engaging and able to relate the subject back to real life. Attendance isnt mandatory however his exams are based off of his lectures, so I wouldnt recommend skipping. Grade was based off of 5 exams, he offers homework but you arent graded on it (it definitely helps with the exams). Definitely recommend taking him.

I have taken econ classes before and I found the subject to be quite boring, so my expectations were not high. Professor Pietrykowski makes the class interesting and engaging. You do not have to go to class however his test are a direct reflection of his lectures, so I wouldnt recommend skipping. Grade is based off of 5 exams. Definitely recommend!

I would not take him again, very boring it is non-stop him talking. His study guide is almost useless. Tests are essay only, have three assignments and two tests worth 25% of your grade each. He also tries to make you see things the way he does, just answer how he would answer questions and your good. I will not be taking him again....ever.....

Someone says "acts kind of creepy and a total marxist", well I second that. Typical social science class at U of M consisting of convincing everyone that capitalism is evil. These classes push a belief system more than they state facts and this class is no different. This guy is more subtle than some but definately has a personal agenda.
