Honestly, just show that you care, speak up, and listen and she will be willing to work with you. As long as you put in some effort to demonstrate that you are trying to follow along, you will be fine-- everyone giving her a hard time is just whining.

Comment:

I have great respect for Dr. Flores-Silva. She gave me my worst grade yet at Roanoke College yet I am glad to have taken her class. I did not do all the assigned readings, which was a mistake. READ THE MATERIAL! She is a profound thinker whose lectures are as deeply analytical as they are imbued with mystical symbolism. Will be taking more classes.

She is really passionate about the info. that she is teaching. She also really tries to get to know the students and engage them in class discussion. She also has a very fun and loving personality. She really makes you think critically and reflect. Also make sure that you do the reading and pay attention to the small details because they matter!

Comment:

Best teacher in the Spanish program. Makes you see things from new perspectives, and with stronger language and culture skills. An inspirational human being who brings lots of energy and care to everything. Great teacher.

Very unorganized. Students don't know when they have homework, or what the homework is. She constantly talks about how she goes by the syllabus, but ironically never follows it. She is very passionate, and wants students to think critically. Almost never teaches relevant material. Only take her for low level classes: 150, 201.

Dr. Flores-Silva or Lolis and only a handfull of students gets to call her is an Amazon. She teaches because it is in her blood and she cares about her history, the importance of literature, of analysis of and speaking and connecting to others in a way that you never really ever go back.

Dolores Flores-Silva is my favorite professor here at RC. She loves quizzes, but as long as you have studied the vocabulary and short stories from the text, quizzes and tests are fairly easy. Also...participation is imperative in her class if you want a really good grade. She prefers that you use bad grammar rather than say nothing at all.

Dolores is one of the most proficient spanish teachers there is. She is extreamly intellectual and offers some really great insight on Latin Am. Culture and Literature. She is very unique in the way she teaches her class.
