Comment:

This class will kill you if you take it lightly. It is a C programming class in Linux which covers a broad spectrum of network code. The exams are reworded homework questions and all previous exams are available. Open notes. However, they are timed. He won't be teaching this anymore since he is retiring. Hope you guys like the next guy :)

Comment:

This class is pretty easy and light weight. Getting a "B" like said earlier is super do-able. The labs are due the next meeting. The final was the only hard part, but honestly it wasn't that bad at all. Easy assignments but don't let them stack up. This class is basically 174 + trees and linked list. He doesn't really answer your questions though.

Comment:

This course in addition to 481 got me a job at IBM. Everything is in his extensive notes and so long as you study for the timed tests, there's no reason to do badly. I've never seen him angry, only annoyed when people ask questions that were right in his notes. I will be sorry when he finally retires, and wish he still taught 326.

Too get an A in his class, you need to have above 90 for both midterms. B is probably a cake walk. I didn't do that great in the final but got an A anyway 'cause I did well on my midterms. Make sure you don't neglect any of them. Workload is light since there's no homework. Just show up in the lab to do those short assignments.

I don't understand why everyone is giving bad review. He was a good professor. If you got an A in 174 and know Java pretty well, you will do fine in this class. However, for those that barely passed 174, this class will be tough because the material is dependent on 174.

This teacher got the most negative comments from students every semester every year. All comments are right since I was in his class I know.His personality is not good for a teacher. Some students may like him because they try to hang arround and chat with him.

Probably the worst prof in the dept. Knows everything about the subject, except for how to teach it. Gets mad when students ask questions and even madder when you make mistakes. Always makes rude comments to you while you're working on labs. Stay away if you can.

WARNING!!!! To everyone avoid this teacher because he is the worst teacher I have ever had it and every time you ask questions, he will ignore you or he will get mad at you for no reason and if he gives you hard time, make sure you complain to the Dean's Dept. and hopefully they will remove him from the office.

Confusing assignments. Hard Tests. Not helpful at all. Horrible transition between 174 and 274. Avoid if you do not not have much experience in programming yet!

worst teacher I have ever had!most teachers like when u ask questions and dont have a problem answering thm. He seems to get irritated if u ask to many.When he does answer u he is walking away mumbling or answering u with a question.The only way I figured out his assignments was help frm othr students and tutoring.His grading sucks! AVOID if u can!

Comment:

One of the better options for Operation Systems class. No textbook is required, everything is on the package of notes you buy. Lectures are almost straight out from the notes, but he clarifies or go over examples on key points. Lab projects are fairly easy and doable, 1-2 difficult ones. Tests are open notes/HW and is mostly straight programming.

The man does know his stuff compare to Mack, but his lectures aren't very clear. His lectures are short (about 15 to 20 minutes at most) while his labs can take somewhere from 15 to 65 minutes or more. His tests are extremely hard if you haven't had any programming exprience.

Volper is not a very good teacher. His lectures are boring, and his labs are hard. He isn't helpful in lab, and he gets mad if you ask him questions about them. He sometimes answers questions with question. He believes his lectures are crystal clear when they are not. I don't recomend him.

Comment:

Volper is a cool guy but sometimes cracks jokes that only he laughs at. Is a very strange individual but none-the-less a decent teacher. Homeworks are pretty easy and he makes you work for the answer while giving you hints, however not a full hint or answer... Tests are ridiculously hard and there is only 3.

Reasonable about of work, short assignments that build on each other. Just remember he is kind of deaf and wears a hearing aide so if he seems like he is yelling, he's not. He can also be a joker and a little humor in lecture can't hurt.

His class is really easy. His explanation is very clear and helpul. the code is almost given to you. Very easy to get an A in his class. somewhat boring but its bearable:).
