Comment:
Even though Twomey is retired if he decides to ever teach again I would take again. He is very laid back and enthusiastic about the econ. Tests are easy to anticipate as he basically just copies questions from homework or old exams. Wise man.

I thought I was prepared for this class seeing as how I had Economics in high school but Professor Twomey is awful! His class is pointless as he just uses slideshows that he puts up online and he doesn't go into depth about any of it. Says to just read book which is way too long for each chapter. Worst class ever. Making me transfer next year.

One of the best professors of the Economics Department. He is dedicated to his students success and is always willing to share a cup of coffee and talk about econ. He is the reason I am an Econ Major! All his old exams are online, gives HW to buffer grade. Would recommend over Miteza for 301.

He cannot stay on topic. Talks too much about the olden days like he doesn't have people in their 20's & mid-20's. most of the time what he's talking about had nothing to do with the subject. Teaches like his students already knows the material. Doesn't care if you can't keep up. Will gladly show you the door if you want to leave.

Prof Twomey is a great professor. He is genuinely interested in the subject and always willing to help with questions. posts old exams online. Lecture was pretty pointless since all exam material was from the readings but it was still interesting. I got a B+ with minimal effort other than doing the readings. wish all my econ classes were with him!

His tests can be tough, but he gives some extra credit and grades on a curve. Study notes, slides and book. Grade based on 4 tests, nothing else.

Took for Econ in the Middle East. Be warned.. there is an UNBELIEVABLE amount of reading to do. He provides study guides for each test, however, they are enormous. Once you do it and study, you become overwhelmed. The actual tests are long. Lots of work to do as well- 2 papers, and 1 research paper. Not clear. Almost impossible to get an A.

I did not like this course. The material was covered so quickly I don't think anything ever had time to sink in. Never knew what would be on the exams either. Extra credit is offered, 8 points before each exam & puts huge curves on exams too. I ended up with a B but studied harder than I did for my classes I received A's in.

Great professor. Has all his old exams uploaded to a website that are super beneficial to study (he recycles some of his questions on the exams). Grade was based on 2 small papers, one longer paper and 3 exams. Final WASN'T cumulative. Great to talk to after class and probably one of my favorite profs at UM-D. Would recommend him!

Professor Twomey knows his material well. I was a bit bothered that he was yet another UMD professor who espouses his liberal viewpoints every chance he gets, but that aside his study guides are spot on and the tests are fair and reflect the material taught. If he taught anything else I was interested in I would consider taking him again.

Extra credit (USE IT) and he grades on a curve. Overall, he knows what he talks about, but it's still hard. An AP class only gets you past the first test. Study at least an hour a night, and you will be making the curve. Four tests, half multiple choice, half write-in. He posts old tests online, so there's that.

Twomey is a decent prof. His lectures are fairly understandable, and he does explain most material well. Tests are based on book, but I discovered studying notes, old exams, and key words from the book worked better than reading. EC and curve are used on all four exams. If you're willing to put in some effort, I would recommend Twomey.

Grades on a curve with extra credit. gets most of the test from the textbook and his lectures didn't clear up subject very much. However the curve and extra credit make it worth taking him.

Just 4 tests graded on a curve - generally easy to pass, but hard to get an A. Twomey was straightforward and conversational in class, clearly knows contemporary economics, though he falls on the Keynsian side of things. Tests are difficult, but curve and EC makes them easy. Decent grade for little study.

Prof. Twomey is a great prof! Very friendly to students and teaches Econ in a way students can grasp; he avoids the gory details. Tests can throw some harder questions but they are fair and he curves. There is EC for each test, too. Old exams are online, though not a ton of help right now (Apr 2010), since the book is newer. I highly recommend him.
