Comment:

I loved this class with Dr. Baughman. By far the most interesting lab I've ever taken. You definitely have to produce quality lab reports to get a good grade, but if you follow her rubrics, you will do fine. You need the textbook for the hw, but people got by with renting or borrowing from classmates. Definitely would recommend Gail for any class.

Lectures were perfect companions for book work. Read your material, take advantage of outside resources (I used Khan Academy) and you'll do fine. Gives good feedback and is willing to work with you.

Comment:

Somewhat difficult class in terms of understanding the material, and there's a lot of it. I wouldn't suggest taking without prior bio experience, but Baughman really cares about her students and is very helpful! If you do the work and read the online lectures you'll do fine!

She is great! I have taken a few labs in the past Professor Baughman has to be one of my favorites. If you show up to class, complete your labs and turn in the worksheets you should be able to get an easy A. She really helps her students and you can tell she loves science. It's always nice when you see someone teach something they love!

Gail is a great instructor! If you get the chance to take her, you should. I had BIO105 - "Genes and Technology in Society" online for a 16-week session. I've never been a science person, but I loved this class. Her lectures are clear and conversational, getting the point across easily without feeling too dry.

A very interesting class. She had a very very clear grading criteria for everything. There were only 2 papers, a final, and a midterm. There are also weekly quizzes, but there are multiple attempts on the multiple choice and short answer. Would definitely take again!

While prepare for the test, I thought about how the question are related to the previous quizzes. But it turns up to be a different question which are something else. Some aren't even show us the example on how to answer it.

Prof Baughman is AWESOME! She is very passionate about science, making it fun. Class is tough, but she is clear about her expectations and wants you to succeed. Lectures are online, and mini lecture is given at each lab. Tests are pretty straight forward. Do the work, study and go to office hours/test reviews you'll be fine. BEST CLASS I'VE TAKEN!

HYBRID. Great teacher, especially if you are a BIO major. She assigns weekly lectures and groupwork questions each week with homework. It is a lot of work outside of class, but the labs are interesting and fun for the most part. She is there to help if you have issues, but study vocab terms for test, always messed me up. TESTS ARE 60% OF YO GRADE!

Comment:

Professor Baughman is a great teacher. I took the hybrid class and loved it. It is a lot of work but Biology is not an easy subject to learn. She is very helpful, do all the homework, keep up with all work she assigns and talk to her. I wasn't doing well in the beginning but passed the class with a C. Go to the review sessions they help so much.

I took this class as a hybrid, the lab was in class but all the lectures were online. This made this class really difficult for me. If you have a good work ethic and can manage your time well, you'll do fine. She is a pretty tough grader. Be ready to put around 6-10 hours a week into the online portion, and take good notes. Go to her office hours!

Grades far too hard. If there is a single piece of information missing or incorrect you lose considerable points. Went down 2 letter grades after the exam, even though I thought I did well. Will not take again and do not recommend.

This class is very hard. The tests are ridiculous and very difficult. I am a straight A student except for this class. Very tough grader. The labs were hard to finish. Some of the lecture videos are very very difficult to understand :(

I enjoyed Biology until I took this class. Very tough grader and if you miss a single piece of information, she will deduct considerable points even if you're otherwise correct on your answer. Exams were far too difficult, I had an A until the first exam which dropped me to a C due to the short response questions not being perfect. Do not recommend

this was a hybrid class, do not recommend I have never seen harder test and on top of it the test are 60% of grade, the lecture part was online and it was horrible there were no solid facts or answers you had to search for them. It was a 3 hour lab class but she would lecture for an hour 30min so at the end we'd all be rushing to finish our lab

I took her BIO 105 class online. The course material was somewhat difficult but Professor Baughman's online lectures were helpful and interesting. Quizzes and exams were almost completely based on her online lectures rather than the textbook. To achieve a high grade in the class, you must complete the weekly discussion boards and quizzes.

Comment:

Bio is hard in general if you have no interest in it. Read the book, take good notes, study for the exams and you will make a good grade. The exams are very conceptual and have a LOT of short answer questions so you need to be able to explain how things work!! Would take her again if she taught other bio classes here.

Super hard tests!! It's alllll application not definitions or if you can explain what you learned. Way too hard for a bio 100 class. Homework is once a week and extensive. You can understand all the material and fail the tests. good luck.
