Overall a great professor. I'm sure I would have given him a 5 if this had been what it was meant to be: an 8-week class, but it was clear that Prof. Sellers was not really equipped to teach that particular class for a full term. My main problem was that the assignments were so short and easy so I didn't feel equipped for the midterm or final.

What a fun class! Professor Sellers creates all the material himself, and his online video lectures are really well presented. Not easy, but lots of opportunities to succeed. Every paper, every discussion board, he offers individual feedback to every single student, so he has as much homework as his students. He cares about what he's teaching.

Way more about music than history. You MUST do two concert reviews of concerts you attend (due to Covid we were allowed to watch online instead) or its an automatic fail, otherwise a pretty easy class. I would have preferred learning more about the history of jazz and the musicians but the class was fun and I developed a liking for jazz music.

History of jazz was an amazing class with Joey. Hes a true trombone legend and his lectures will leave you inspired, interested, and laughing uncontrollably. It can be difficult to identify specific players, but hell offer hints sometimes during tests. What a guy.

I personally don't like jazz so the class wasn't interesting but it was so incredibly easy. If you like jazz definitely use this professor for a really fun and genuine time... and if you don't like jazz still use him so you can get a good grade and help that gpa haha. good luck!

History of Jazz is awesome! Each week you listen to a few songs, answer a few questions, and write about it on a discussion board. Required to go to 2 jazz shows throughout the semester and do a paper about them, but it's actually enjoyable. Doesn't take much time each week and I enjoyed discovering some new music. This class is a good choice!

AWESOME! I took online History of Jazz & loved it. He puts together thoughtful & clear lectures w/ great examples. No req'd book; he builds everything. Great thought provoking questions in the weekly discussion. Not easy A but doable. 2 req'd concerts (fail if you don't do), weekly quizzes, all open book. Not just for music majs. He's passionate!!

No textbook required. Class takes about 30 minutes to an hour each week. Really, the class is just an excuse to listen to jazz music and get credit for it. Sellers is great, a really passionate prof. Weekly discussion boards and open-book, multiple attempt online quizzes. 2 short concert reviews, an easy midterm, and an easy final.

Professor Sellers love for Jazz is evident whether at his gigs or in a music room. He is caring, enthusiastic and passionate. Online quizzes were fun and simple. He adds a review guide which comes in handy during the Midterm & Finals. It was a pleasurable class to take and would def. retake.

Grade made up of very easy multiple 4-5 question online quizzes, 4 exams, 4 one-page internet write-ups, and 3 two-page concert reviews. Grade not-weighted so exam questions equal other categories. You can get an A even getting C's on tests as long as you do other work. unlimited extra credit concert reviews. Amazing teacher and very knowledgeable.

the class is definitely boring if you aren't super involved with music. He spoke to the class as if we were all AP music students so half the time i had no idea what he was talking about. He's pretty disorganized, his class has no structure. he is a cool and funny guy though. I'd only recommend this to people who have a background in music.

This was a cool online 8 wk class. You learn a lot about jazz but Mr. Sellers makes it fun and not so stressful. You have to go to 2 jazz concerts and write reviews, a midterm and final, and the rest is online readings and short quizzes with multiple attempts allowed. He lets you ask questions during tests, doesn't want you to worry, just learn!

I listened to maybe 3 jazz albums before taking this class. I enjoyed jazz but never really gave it much thought. Then came this class. Don't go in with a pessimistic attitude and you will learn. Learned so much and rarely ever took notes. Love Sellers' teaching style and charisma. Highly recommend to ANYONE not just people who are super into jazz.

Took 8wk online course. Didn't listen to the lectures just focused on learning general info of the musicians, bands, etc. and that helped for the midterm and final. 2 concert reviews. Funny and helpful. Makes exams a discussion of music and does not want you to stress over them. gives exam reviews day before which are exact tests next day.

P. Sellers is great and makes Jazz interesting and fun. The class does become more difficult to GE students as the semester goes on, but if you show up, are engaged, are do the assignments, an A is definitely manageable.

My experience with this instructor was short but dissapointing. Asked in a discussion board "Raise your hand" when the last day to withdraw without receiving a W grade. It had been 8 days and still no response from him. I luckily dropped the class but was a day late in being eligible for a refund because i had been waiting for a response from him.
