I understand giving constructive criticism and critiques but dont tell students that they have no talent. Always complains about students being late but disappears during class/ always is late/leaves early. Not a professional attitude for a teacher. Disrespectful if he doesnt like your work

Hardest painting class in my life, I was afraid to pick up the paint brush. However I did learn to change my colors a lot bc he wanted them to be exact which has helped me in the long run.

John's class taught me so much about art, and how to produce quality pieces. John could easily relate to his students and offered good insight on our pieces. Though some thought he was confusing & vague, I found that this was actually very beneficial to us. John taught us to work through our moments of doubt & confusion and create strong pieces.

John is a cool guy and a good artist, but he thinks he's the coolest guy and the greatest artist. Not a very helpful (vague explanations) or supportive teacher unless he "sees something" in your work. Demands perfect punctuality, but is always late to class. He also disappears in the middle of class & leaves class an hour before the block is over.

John is everything. He (nearly) singlehandedly made me the artist that I am today. Take every course you can and become a sponge. When you feel that you can't absorb any more John, adapt. Absorb more. You will miss his wisdom when it's gone.

I learned a great deal in this class about acrylic and abstract painting. Prof O'Connell was good at getting you to be more free in using your brushstrokes, but was abrasive at times and was not the most professional of mentors.

He was really vague about his explanation of the assignments. I feel like I did ok in the class, but overall I don't feel as though I learned a whole lot. He didn't provide much help at all to people that have never painted before. Probably a good teacher if you are going into painting though.

Solid professor, need a working level of understanding about art to really get a lot of use out of his help. The course requires a lot of work, but if you're interesting in painting, I found it incredibly useful.

He was somewhat helpful and pretty vague when explaining what to do. Also makes assumptions about your personality based on what and how you paint, sometimes offensive.

John is a great teacher, I have learned so much from him, I'm a photography student and I've learned so much from a painter, who would have thought.
