If you dont know anything about piano then DONT TAKE THIS INSTUCTOR. She doesnt give clear instructions and if you ask about them she doesnt help you. She trys to embarrass/humiliate/intimidate you in class and smiles after as if its a joke. Shes not accessible at all and doesnt give you any of her time for help. I dropped to not get an F.

Comment:

She is strict but I can tell she's very passionate about teaching. I love that she'd tell us about some of her life experiences. If you disrespect her she won't put up with you so don't make the semester miserable, be respectful. You have to play solos in class but don't worry, everyone is in the same boat. It's fun when you have a good attitude!

I was generally on her good side, so I wasn't singled out so much like some of the other students in the class were. She calls on people randomly to answer confusing and unclear questions. She tends to treat her students like they're little kids, even if we have valid questions. She is a great pianist, though, and I definitely learned a lot.

Impossible teacher. Got angry at students even though one was trying to help clear the other's confusion. Grades aren't available. She likes to embarrass people in front of the class. Expects people to listen to her, but doesn't listen in return. The list goes on and on...

I quit after 3 weeks of class this spring. She doesn't respect her students. If you do anything she doesn't like she claims your being defiant and she will yell at you. If you don't hear what she is saying she will take you into a little room and privately tell you off. She needs to retire or quit because she has no passion for teaching.

She treats U like U are in 2nd grade. The class is boring & the way she talks to U is absolutely unacceptable. Assigned seating, U can't even whisper or she will yell & put you on the spot. Bathroom use is regulated. I am a grown adult & refuse 2B abused. ARC is awesome but this teacher is horrible. Her way or no way. Ruined fall semester for me.

kept jumping back and forth between subjects during and expected you to catch up. If you ask a reasonable question, you get a response like "we already went over that at the beginning of the semester". Great pianist, not so great of a teacher.

When i took Miss Keene in summer 2011, i followed her syllabus did all homework, mostly 90-100% on all test got a 89% on my final, even tho i did a song outside the book. only thing i missed was a CONCERT REPORT. and i get a D in the class. i still dont understand how and im trying to fight it. just bware do ALL UR WRK OR SHE FLUNK U!

I thought music was supposed to be fun and uplifting, not in Miss Keene's class. She seems to think students who are trying to learn are stupid and deserve no respect. Her bad attitude makes learning harder and uncomfortable. She does not belong in an academic setting. I really want to learn music but her verbal abuse consumes my focus.

I was excited to take music classes at college until I took Miss Keene's class. I have never had an instructor who could be so disrespectful to her students.If Miss Keene thinks your worthy of her time then for the most part she will not disrespect you. Before taking her class make sure you really read and take in the other students comments.

Miss Keene is very talented at the piano although her teaching skills suffer do to her personality. She can sometimes be rude, assaulting, demeaning, and can embarrass her students during class. There are 6 songs you play in the class(graded). If someone is excited about learning music then Miss Keene is most likely not the first choice to pick.

Going into this class I was terrified. After reading the comments here I was not sure that I should take it. So I ended up sucking it up and went to class. She is not so bad. Honestly, she just has a few issues with communication. But she genuinely wants you to succeed. Do the homework! Practice, practice.

Miss Keene has to be the most abrasive, unapproachable woman I've ever met. She publicly humiliates students, talks about religion constantly, and makes you feel incompetent whenever you have a question. Smiles when she insults you. Made me cry on the first day, complained to dean about her. She's a talented pianist, but infuriating person to know.

Keene was very unclear from the beginning. If this is your first music class, the beginning will be extremely challenging. She moves fast through basic theory. Then, she crawls through chord progressions. Super boring and moody.

This class is NOT hard like some of these other students put on here. I had no experience beforehand. All you have to do is pay attention, and show up. If you have a question, ask her, she'll explain it. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about music, as well as, an amazing pianist. She also got me hooked on 88.9FM classical music :) - Derek

If you have a background in music theory, then Miss Keene is understandable but if this is your first time learning about music(like me)- DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! She give no context to her subject matter and expects that everyone knows the basics of music. No fun unless you already play and read music.
