Comment:

Outside of class, talking to Dr. Mattei was awesome. She recommended interesting books and was always willing to chat. Ask her about her time working at Northampton State Hospital, a local psychiatric hospital. Time spent in class felt like a waste, however: too many movies, too many summaries read from the textbook, slow discussions.

Comment:

Professor Mattei is passionate about her subjecting and caring towards her students. Some see her lectures as a bit one sided but she approaches topics from controversial viewpoints so that one is forced to think critically about their stance on topics relating to ethics and mental health. I would recommend her for all clinical psych concentrations

Comment:

Lourdes will destroy interest in even the most academic students. She moves the class at such a slow pace that it becomes agonizing. Every reading is so short and easy that it provides no real information that I didn't already know. She is completely unhelpful when approached and doesn't even allow students to participate half the time.

Lourdes could drain the life juices out of even the most passionate students. We have consistently been 2 weeks behind the syllabus because she moves unbelievably slowly. She assigned a final paper & changed the assignment after we'd worked on drafts for 2 weeks! You will learn NOTHING that you don't already know from the readings.

i really enjoyed Lourdes as my professor. Lourdes tries to have class discussions but so little kids do the hw because unfortunatly she will have no hw and then clump together 50 pgs for one day. overall if you do your work and participate she will has really good prompts for discussion which can make the class very interesting.

Lourdes was not the best teacher. Her class lectures frequented around the one central point the biopsychosocial approach to determining appropriate movements on a mental illness. The class progressed at the pace of and with the book, rarely allowing for the students expansion of ideas through other topics. All class projects were pertinent to topi

Lourdes is all what you put into her. Apply yourself and the class will be relatively easy and you will learn a lot. She will give you freedom to study what you want, but also enough rope to hang yourself if your not self motivating. Will frequently disapear for no apparent reason. Brilliant psychologist.

She was never around when I needed her to be, and didn't have much to say in terms of advising - she seemed to only care about her class and not the general academic performance of her students. Horrible teacher, quite boring and droning, and an awful, awful advisor.

I dropped out halfway through my one class with Lourdes. She uses a bunch of pop culture examples which she fails to tie in to psychological theory well. I felt like she was dumbing the class down. Mind you, this was a few years ago...

Comment:

Lourdes, while being a part-time professor, is always available and very helpful. She is interested in what she teaches, and that helps to make the material more accesable. I would take any class taught by her.
