I'll admit, this class is NOT an easy A BUT it's worth a take if you're willing to do the work and show up you'll definitely pass without a struggle! He's really not that hard; super clear on grading criteria, amazing feedback on every assignment, and is understanding!! Gives out second chances for better grades and WANTS to see you SUCCEED.

Comment:

The professor did not make his standards clear and often changed his mind at the last minute. One instance that stand out is when he gave us a prompt for the midterm and told use to write an essay using it. Then we would copy that essay into the green book. Yet on the day of the test he completely changes the prompt making the essays useless.

Professor Valter makes you work to earn your grade, but if you are willing to try he is willing to meet you halfway. He gives very good feedback and review of your work and provides insight on how to improve as a writer.

Comment:

He treats his college students like they're elementary school students. Spends a lot of time reading (or calling on students to read) directly from the textbook in place of lectures. Sometimes unforgiving when students diverge from his exact criteria, but luckily gives clear rubrics. Very tough, but generally fair, and willing to help when asked.

Very much a "tough but fair" professor; clearly appreciates effort put into his class, and will go out of his way to help you so long as you show your taking his class seriously. I can point to a few times when he was more lenient than I would have been on a student, but he's far from a pushover. If you're willing to put effort in, take his class.

I hope whoever takes Valter's class will not write the same post like I do after they have taken the class. This guy is mean, rude, careless, and a heavy lecturer. Late always. Gives hard time that he does not personally favor (which is super unprofessional). He emotionally attacks you literally. Do NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!! Seriously!!!!!

I have no idea why mission college hire such arrogant aXX to ruin its reputation. he is mean, careless, personally giving hard time to the students that might not impress him. He comes to classes late and no show all the time without even a try of expplaination. this is not your backyard, pro, you are gonna need to act professionally to teach.

He is tough and gave ridiculous assignments. Some of them were interesting and fun, others, such as writing a research paper based on a poem was quite non-sense personally. He was late for class frequently and no show randomly.

Excellent class, great learning environment as socializers are encouraged to leave. Unique teaching style shows he actually gives a damn about teaching. Advice: set personal goals and meet them, show interest in topics, work hard. Valter respects original ideas and hard work, two vital aspects of appreciating literature, Awesome class Mike.

He is confusing at times about what he wants you to do. It can be difficult to make the transition to his style of teaching (Themes, Literary aspects) but honestly, if you just say a bunch of stuff like "I feel as if the author was lost in his life and that is reflected in his poem" then you're good as gold! Also the material you read is great.

He teaches you from the start how to write the way he expects you to, so take those "how to write an intro" assignments seriously, cuz you'll lose points on ur essays if you dont follow them. He expects participation & even makes it part of your grade. Essays & poetry project weighted heavily (not much "busy work"). Pop quizzes are in-class essays

He is very hypocritical, he requires you to understand the MLA format while not understanding it himself. He changed my paper grade from a B to an A after I complained because he admittedly he did not read my paper carefully... Sloppy teacher, unprofessional, tunnel vision, rude; however, he is fair and treats all students like crap.

This is the most frustrating class I have ever been in. He grades the papers he assigns before he tells you exactly what he is looking for. He is self absorbed and only values his own opinions. He is 100% unapproachable and a time waster. I took this class at Ohlone and aced it with another prof. Due to GE requirements here, I must endure this one.

He's a very hard teacher and highly requires in his class.Essay topics are weird and too hard. Not too many assignments, but u have to spend much time on each. Don't expect A and B, u'd better think about C. He will let u know what he expects from ur essays after grading, so there is no chance to lift ur grades up. Reading books is not required.

Professor Valter is a great teahcer. When I first got into his class I disagreed with his methods, and I also would get annoyed becuase he took literature way too seriously; But in the end I realized he truly is a great teacher and his seriousness in literature made me get serious about it also. I receommend him because he will def. suprise you!
