Comment:

Not sure what to make of him. He knows his stuff, but seems to want us to teach it to ourselves in these silly group discussions. I understand that to a point, but this subject does not lend itself to that method - because it is SO foreign to most of us. Plus the text is unclear and repetitive. Prof. Starkis, we need lectures!

I enjoyed taking his BA class. He expects students to be prepared and to participate. He does not want the info read to be regurgitated - he wants to know that you understand the concepts presented. I would definitely take another of his classes.

What is the hubub about this guy? There are plenty of more obnoxious professors at the school. This professor is also crystal clear about what will be on the final. Compulsion about working in groups is annoying, but I would avoid other professors before him.

Tough teacher because he won't spoon feed you. Expects you to know the material and "do your job." Material or class wouldn't nearly be as difficult if people actually studied. Enjoyed the class

Ya um, let's just say this guy has a "lets be friends facade" but in actuality he makes everyone VERY angry. He knows his stuff and goes over the end of class by 5-10 minutes every single time without fail. If you are a teacher and hate your life, please dont take it out on students, we are there to learn.

His "Call me Andy" approach because he doesn't want the artificial "Professor" to get between him and the student doesn't mesh with his actual classroom demeanor. He apparently enjoys putting down his students, sometimes when they give him back the exact information that he gave to the class. If I had it to do over, I'd take, oh?anybody else.

I think he's a great guy. Quirky maybe, but knows his stuff and is willing to help. If you have thin skin...be prepared to suck it up. If you get his sense of humor...you're going to have a good time.

This guy is the biggest ass clown I have ever met. He is not nearly a smart or well as educated as he thinks. If you are comfortable watching him abuse fellow students for his own gratification, take his classes. He was humiliated when he had to give students in my class 17.5 and 16 on his 15 point grammar skills exam because of his errors - smart!

I haven't taken Professor Starkis for anything because I heard horror stories. Boy, was I wrong for listening. I wish I had taken him. He recently helped out myself on a special project and he is amazing. What a wonderful person and teacher. I can't imagine that anything he teaches in class is motivated by anything other than concern for students

This guy is a coward. Obvious self confidence issues translate into a mission to belittle those he believes are ignorant to the scary real world of practice. Obsessed with breaking class up into groups for no apparent reason. Does not teach. Mandatory attendance unnecessary as most students are 2L professionals. An embarrassment.

I can't argue with anyone who complains about his smile/smirk -- it is borderline demented. However, if you can get past it you will find he is a actually a good teacher. He is able to put complicated ideas into understandable terms.

Great motivational speaker. Can sum up volumes in digestable bits. The study groups don't work for me, but I understand what he wants to achieve. I'd recommend him for B.A. In B.A. you get out of it what you put into it.

He treats his students as if they were unruly pre-schoolers rather than the working professionals they are. Being in his class is like going for a walk in the woods at night, you never know what's ahead of you, you can barely tell where you've been and you're just waiting for that inevitable moment when something jumps up and bites you.
