Comment:
He is one of the most straightforward professors you will get, which is rare in law school. Clear PowerPoints, lots of hypos to help you understand the material in class. He gives lots of practice questions, and even puts some of the practice questions directly on his exams. No surprises whatsoever on his tests. Super fair.

At the beginning of Property I thought I was going to hate Professor Beckerman, but by the end of the year he became one of my favorite professors. He is extremely fair, provides all of the information necessary for his exams, and his sarcasm and humor always makes for an entertaining class.

He tries so hard to be like the professor who "makes you work hard and confuses you but you end up learning" but fails. Makes things more complicated than necessary. Doesn't actually give any answers to anything and so you literally learn nothing. Gives multiple choice quizzes and exams that set you up for failure.

One of the best professors I've had. His personality can be quirky at times but he knows the material and cares about students. When I have asked for help outside of class he is available and willing to take the time and answers emails quickly.

SO GLAD it's over. He isnt bad when he sticks to SHORT hypothetical and clicker questions--but during Semester 2 , most of every class was taken up but lengthy confusing hypos that he couldn't even follow. I found the book useless. The materials he prepares on the subject and the E&E are helpful but you will have to break it all down for yourself.

Hands down the most brilliant professor I've ever had. If you prepare for class and do your reading, you'll agree. Very socratic, so slackers will complain, but B-R is brilliant and his methods are effective if you're engaging yourself.

What the professor has in intelligence and knowledge he lacks in personality. He knows his stuff and is a good professor but his personality is as dry as a bone; his pessimistic, rigid, abrasive and uncompromising personality is where he faults.

Very bright with a lot of IP experience to draw on. That said, it seemed like he'd get stuck in a loop every now and then while lecturing. Exam was open-book but there wasn't much time to look so know your stuff. Certainly not a horrible prof, but not outstanding. Place bets *before* class on whether he trips over a wire that day while pacing.

His patent law and IP classes are like night and day; IP is really easy, patent law is very challenging. He immerses himself in the subject matter and has a lot to teach students. He is impatient with students who have not thoroughly prepared for class, so don't slack.

Great for IP, horrible for Property. Everything was easy until the exam - when he decided to use past exam essay questions as multiple choice questions. Seriously a crap shoot on his exams. Good part about IP is that there isn't a text book.

I'm convinced he purposely obfuscates what is actually a pretty easy subject. Tip: don't waste time on cases and start studying from hornbooks early. His exam was totally ridiculous. Open-book but you will not have time to consult notes.

Very bright and conveys info well - I'd recommend him. He's big on socratic method which does drag on and on sometimes. As mentioned, he does give a grade boost for participation but you have to sign in before class. Exam was open-book all MC (~65/2hr.) - questions were very tricky but that's the trade-off of open book.

Good summary class. Lectures are well thought out and engaging but sometimes a little slow and dated. Exam is multiple choice open book but expect questions to be tricky with a huge number of questions vs. the amount of time. Attendance is not mandatory but will boost your grade. For boost you have to participate. He does randomly call people

Lots of hypos but sometimes he would stay with one and keep changing the fact pattern. Made it confusing to follow at times. He didn't alway do a good job of getting to the key points... Open book exam!

Had Beckerman-Rodau for Intro to IP. One of the best profs I've had at Suffolk Law. Does a great job at sticking to the main points and moves from lesson to lesson very efficiently. Does not get bogged down in analysis of obscure exceptions to the law and then forget to tie them back to the main point, unlike most profs I've had at Suffolk.

Knows the law very well, but doesn't know how to effectively teach. He spends the whole class doing a hypo, changes the fact pattern a thousand times, but never wraps it up with a conclusion.

I could not disagree more with the last 2 posts. But, he is definitely not easy -- mostly because he refuses to spoon feed black letter rules.
