Comment:

David is a great teacher, the atmosphere he creates is peaceful. He is very clear in what you need to learn, and what he teaches is what he grades you on. Do the practice tests and listen to him. He tells you what to expect and there are no surprises. Miss class and you might find yourself struggling if you are only following the textbook.

David is an awesome guy, funny and straight to the point about his exams. Always tries to schedule his midterm and final outside the regular schedule to make it easier on students. His exams are near identical to the practice material he gives you. He is an extremely boring and confusing lecturer, but during lab time he is great and very helpful

Good prof. Very to the point when it comes to his teaching style. Teaches you exactly what you need to know and doesn't waste time on all the extra stuff. If you are engaged to what he says, then he likes you and will treat you well. Tells you exactly what will be on the midterms and final. First day of class he told us to return the textbook.

Very boring in Class,Not helpful,Doesnt explain concepts,just gives out problem and solution handouts that arent even his,canceled 1stday of class without prior notice &everyone showed up to class and wasted our time, speaks in a low voice, wont explain handouts will just let you read the questions and then he reads the answers!Worst prof in DAP!

*Very lazy *slow marker, *boring in class, *not helpful, *doesn't explain concepts , *just gives out problem and answers handouts that he has been recycling for the past century and they aren't his, doesn't even bother to fix typos and reprint, doesn't respond to emails, extremlyyyy boring in class, avoid !! Worst instructor in DAP in my opinion !

Very clear and reasonably difficult. I got an A in his class by just showing up and doing the homework, and studying the day before the exam. He has some funny habits like leaving the class when we work on problems and accentuating keywords while he talks, but who cares.

I appreciate David Chan's straightforward teaching. He starts right away talking about the subject. No time wasted on non-teaching items like attendance, also he gives out solutions for the text-essential to get enough practice. Challenging exams Good teacher for the self-directed who don't like some teacher's methods interfering w their learning

A good teacher overall. Focus on the main point instead of going line by line of the note. Might be good/bad for someone. If you like self study, good to take his class by exploring the main point cover in class. (I didn't read the textbook at all). Otherwise, take the other class. I will take his class if he will be teaching 4110.

DAP at UBC. Chan is a nice guy but you will learn little in class unless you teach yourself from the book. If you take this class it doesn't matter if you get a 90 or not-your grade in Cost Accounting is going to get hammered because you will be totally clueless. How can UBC have such a good reputation with professors like him and Aziz?!!!

Comment:

David's redeeming quality is that he is good at summarizing the main points. The drawback is that you lack a lot of the details needed to have a full understanding of the material. You have to give him credit as a test marker. I don't know anyone else who is as generous with marks as him. Overall approachable but lazy & lets us out early-- rip off.

Teaching DAP at UBC. He's pretty useless at lecturing, uses other instructor's notes and doesn't fill in all the details about conceptual examples, races through them in an hour then gives everyone a practice problem which only a couple people know how to do, then races through the solution. Marks quite generously though....

Show up to get his free handouts, you don't need David because you'll be doing all the work on your own anyways. He lets you know what'll be on the exam so show up for the review class otherwise you might as well teach yourself. He makes minimum effort, leaves class often, takes long breaks, and let's you out 30-45 mins early

This guy only comes to teach in order to collect a paycheck. He is not prompt returning e-mails and shows no real desire to teach the material, rather he is there because it's an easy paycheck. He relies on other professors to write notes for the subjects he is supposed to be teaching! He's also very easy going and friendly - who cares though.
