He was helpful to a certain extent. I had him for english and he often went off on tangents. He did offer some good advice but often times I felt like the stuff he was saying had nothing to do with english class. He would post comments on his blog about how poor his students were doing. Yes, he did love J.R.Tolkien.

this man is hilarious, he loves writing and lotr. he'd be appalled at my grammar. and sometimes it's fun to just let him go off on tangents, because an hour an a half is a long time. a lot of people think he's wierd, b/c he is, but he knows what he's talking about, if you get him talking about the right thing.

Very kooky teacher. Apparently the difficulty really depends on which class you have. For mine, he would assign a paper due in a week or so, talk about unrelated subjects in class, and grade the paper relatively easily. He gives lots of written feedback on the paper, but it's TOO MUCH and nitpicking. Funny and weird but often boring too.
