All you need to do is memorize his online notes. I never even bought the textbook. Memorize EVERY little detail. Lectures cleared up some concepts, and he hinted towards what would and wouldn't be on exams. Asking a question in lectures will just result in confusing answers. I overall enjoyed the course though. Happy retirement Norm!!

I did not always felt bad about "accidentally" skipping his classes because the course itself was simply not interesting. He has point- form notes which are difficult to understand by yourself so textbook readings is a must. Final exam much more challenging compared to the midterm so earn as much marks as you can from the midterm!

Norm really tries to keep the class interested, but the class was at noon and I found myself falling asleep. Exams aren't bad, right out of his notes, which were available online and actually the best part of the class

Pretty good prof. but the material for this course was HORRIBLE. so much memorizing. I recommend this course only if u wanna learn about ALL the different types of animals, plants, fungi, protists in the world. His notes are good but the formatting is a little confusing. He also doesn't include the figures he shows in class, so it's hard to follow.

Biol 108 isn't exactly the most interesting class, but Stacey wasn't that engaging either. Notes were confusing and what he covered in class was not well matched with the outlines he provided online. Tests were easy though.

Course was all memorization. I relied heavily on the text and just straight up memorizing his notes which often weren't organized in a way that was easy to understand. Way too strict with keeping the class quiet. Its a class of like 300+ students, you can't expect everyone to be enthralled by segmented arthropods and fish...

This class is all memorization, and Norm does his best to teach it but he can be very boring. He does give away free gloves for answering questions in class though. Boring class, but overall nice guy.

This guy is an idiot. The way he teaches just doesn't work. Don't go to class and read the textbook and you'll be fine. His tests are moderately easy, but lectures are boring and overall useless sums him up. And his obsession for fish is creeping me out.

Comment:
His lectures are terrible. The notes and the notes he uses in lectures is completely different. Impossible to follow during class. With that in mind, Biol 108 is all about memorization and his tests were fair. As long as you study off the textbook and read over his incoherent notes you'll be fine. But if possible, take it with another prof.

Dr. Stacey tries to teach the material, but it is really monotonous. Online notes are significantly better than what he teaches in lecture, so I wouldn't really say going to lectures will help your grade much. Exams were really straightforward. Just keep up with the material every week or so and you should fare well.

Norm tries hard he does, but his notes and layout just seem to lack organization. He does have good notes however, all available at the beggining of the year. His lectures are okay if your really interested but this is a memorizing course so unless you can memorize in lecture then your better off staying home and reading the textbook.

Bio108 is just hard the first palce.Point is memorize EVERYTHING in his notes, do good in labs(Byan Brunet is good TA).Attend his class incase he gives out clues(he actually does, just listen carefully). Figures are important too!.I had a W on biol107, this i got a B- ,effort pays off in this class! Don't ask him ANYTHING he will just misguide you!!

I only went to 4 classes out of the whole term. I just read and memorized every bit of his notes. I got an A+. So my advice would be to memorize EVERYTHING in the notes he provides and you'll ace that course.

Completely pointless in attending class- although he does at side notes here and there his online notes are very detailed. It just seemed like hee could not keep the attention of the class. Everyone either falls asleep or does other homework- because God forbid if he sees you whisper to your friend or text. There's just A LOT of material covered!

Stacey tried to make the lectures interesting, but the truth was I could barely stay awake! Read his online notes, they're very detailed. Read the figures he cites in the textbook. BIOL 108 was one of the hardest courses I took this year, just from the sheer amount of info we had to digest.

he further mystifies concepts when trying to explain them& leave it at "so yah.." he's rude & really tests your patience when you ask for help. he implies you're stupid & does not attempt to relate to various learning methods. his notes are the so ugly that i had to make my own from the text. text is more helpful than him. 85%in lab, 58% in lecture

This is one of the most pointless classes ever. No need to go to class just study off his online notes. His midterm was pretty hard, our class average was 48. Just study off his online notes and skim the textbook drawings.

This prof sucked. seriously, I couldnt learn a thing from him because he was so monotoned and obssesed with fish that I couldnt bring myself to learn a thing he said. He also has some control issues in his class cuz if you even dare to speak to someone beside your or pull your phone out he'll ream you out in front of everyone and basically have a
