He will encourage you to live your best life. As long as you show up and make an effort, will you receive an A. He will ask you to attend a 5k race (but you don't have to participate), subscribe to a free magazine, workout regularly, and do a few things outside of the classroom. Ken is a great professor and you will love his class.

Comment:

I took Professor Balvin class back in 1986 for basic and advanced Scuba, he was a great guy. Easy to talk to and easy access out of class. We had some great trips to Lake Ouachita and Lake Travis, alway fun and learned a lot. I am surprised Balvin is still teaching but since he is you cant ask for anyone better teacher to learn from about Scuba.

Professor Balvin is there to help you get fit. He encourages exercise so that you'll do better in your classes. His goal is for you to leave class with more energy than when you started and to know how to exercise. Ask questions cause he loves to help! If you show up with a positive attitude and do your assignments on time you'll get an A easily.

He's one of the kindest professors I've had. All he expects is for you to take interest in the class, participate and do the assignments-- which are fairly easy. He understands that you have a life outside school and doesn't bog you down with a lot of assignments.

He's great. He'll help work out everything you need to get in shape. He's very clear about how everything works. He requires you to run a 5K and get a subscription to a health magazine instead of doing a textbook. It was great and I learned a lot. It opened up my love of staying healthy, I still use gym and continue what he taught me.

Scuba is not just a pass/fail thing; if you screw up underwater, you can die and others can die because of you. I've had his class in open & adv scuba and will do one more because he is a great instructor. There are costs ass. with this class; equipment, out of town to be cert., book, and time in pool. Scuba Certification is 1 time for life.

He thinks he's the party, but he's a self-centered ass. He won't work around your schedule. He'll untactfully call you out in front of everyone. He's very absent-minded & unorganized (1st things last & last things 1st). He just assumes everyone's as privileged as he is (financially, time-wise, etc...).

If you ever wanted to learn how to scuba dive then this is the instructor for you. He is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and entertaining in his teaching. He loves diving and it comes through in his class. He will unlock the mystery of the underwater world for you and introduce you to things you have never seen before. Take his class, A+ teacher

I loved this class! I took the lecture online and went to campus once a week for the actual experience in the pool. He totally keeps you entertained while you learn. I would recommend him to anyone. I'm thinking of taking additional courses with him.

Ken is wonderful professor. His level of knowledge, practical experience, and passion for the underwater world is expansive and exhausting in its magnitude. I trusted him to teach me how to breath at 60 feet below sea level and to get me back to the surface with a smile on my face. He succeeded at this leaps and bounds above my expectations.

Ken is a great instructor and an avid fitness fanatic! He is very reasonable and motavating. His class is fun and he keeps you interested in learning the dynamics of the sport. I recommend this class to anyone that wants to learn to swim, but not in the fall semester, it gets cold. GREAT INSTRUCTOR!!
