Really respectable, intelligent, and inspiring. He really cares about the content he teaches which is reflected in his choice of amazing reading material. He does take long to give back papers but I think it's because he's a perfectionist and thinks too deeply about everything you write. Good profs are hard to come by at McGill--take him!

Kevin is super professional and also very quirky and fun. He always lends an opinion during discussions and gears the conversations to fit our topics of the day. He is approachable, friendly and caring to all. I was never into philosophy but now I feel a little bit better about it.

Comment:
He was a terrible lecturer, who spent 3 hours often focusing on ONE sentence of a 60 page reading. He asks "read my mind" questions, always looking for a particular answer that no one can give. A very harsh grader, especially considering this was a graduate level class - if people can't write by now, his failing them isn't going to help.

Disorganized teacher. Assignments never corrected and reviewed on time, causing us to make the same mistakes on later essays. Unnecessarily hard grader. I would avoid him...

Attend this class if you want great lectures and discussions. Optional attendance because he treats students like adults. Assessment was a bit all over the place, but I don't care.

An excellent professor, seriously interested in other points of view and very open minded even though he demands rigor when it comes to assignments, and like others have mentioned his comments and helpfulness with written papers are the best of any professor i know

One of the few profs who actually cares what his students think and have to say. His written feedback on assignments is easily the best I've had.

Those to write that his work is useless are the ones looking for the A,B,C, 1,2,3's of how to teach and oblivious to anything deeper than that. Open your minds a bit! He's not 100% reliable, but is helpful and great at animating stimulating discussions if people are willing to think outside the box just a little.

Comment:
This class is in no way useful to future teachers. McDonough does a great job of raising a lot of questions which he never answers, and if statements are ever made, he is sure to reroute them to fit his "liberal" p.o.v.
