Perlmutter is an "old school" professor who very much appreciates the tradition of Socratic teaching. His expectations are high. Don't try to BS your way through contracts. He cares deeply about his students and is always willing to help outside of class. Stay focused and discipline your analysis.You'll be surprised by how much you've learned

Stay away from Perlmutter. He's rude and will grill students the whole class, whether it's obvious if you read the case or not. And if you didn't read it he'll make sure to rub it in and make you look stupid. He's full of himself and super boring. If you want to enjoy you're 1L year, stay away.

Comment:

Anyone who has negative comments for RMP probably didn't do that well. He is intimidating at first and the course is challenging, but it forces you to truly learn the material. Wish I could take him for every class. Go see him in his office. He is always willing to help.

Most intimidating 1D prof for sure. You have to be prepared everyday because when you are on, he will stick with you for up to the whole class period. But when the year is over, you will be happy you had him!

Contracts. He's kinda scary at first, but he's actually very nice and has an odd sense of humor. He calls on people randomly. His final was tough but fair. If you're lost, he helps after class

He's frightening! BUT, once you get over that, you can learn a lot from him. You must do the reading, be prepared for class, and do all the extra work he gives you. It really will help you out in the end. Sometimes he can complicate things a bit, so I recommend getting a supplement if you feel confused.

Midterm was so out there but the final was fair. Very knowledgable but can't clearly express it. I often found his lectures confusing and his spin on the cases misdirected. Not helpful in terms of guidance at all.

He's actually one of my favorite professors so far. I was completely lost at the mid-term exam but as he said it would it all clicked toward the end of the spring and his final exam is totally fair - no surprises. He really wants to help students learn & give you tons of study group questions to practice also try to go to his open office hours.

Loved the guy. Fair exams, no curveballs. Lots of experience, conveys the material clearly, and is readily available for student questions. This was a good class with a great professor.

If you left his class and didn't know contracts, you must have been asleep at the wheel. His mid-term might as well be written in Greek, but he is very passionate about getting you to learn. You're in law school to understand the law and he'll hammer it home if you let him.

He is fantastic, really knows his stuff, and does a great job teaching difficult concepts. Don't get discouraged by your mid-term grade. Class can be a bit intimidating since being in the hot seat may last all of one class and sometimes into the next class. I definitely agree with the other reviewer's tough love comment :-)
