Prof. Halevi-Wise is a real gem, in both the English Department and also McGill on the whole. Not only does she possess an encyclopedic knowledge of English literature, she is thoughtful and honestly cares about her students. Her teaching style is most definitely not traditional, but it makes for an even more interesting discussion.

At first, I was skeptical but this turned out to be my favourite class of my ENGL major. She genuinely cares about how you do and here short assignments (4x15%, 300 wds) improve your writing. A really amazing woman!! She's tiny but has a BIG voice

Seriously troubled by the majority of positive reviews. Her lectures are uninformative and seemingly unorganized. Her marking is hard and her justification for it isn't very convincing. If you take her class and hate English, take another course with someone different - you're not the problem.

SHE'S AMAZING! this was the first class she's ever tried out 2 page essays and maps for the books as assignments, and it really paid off. if you participate in class, do the readings, and put some thought and creativity into your assignments, then you will succeed. her lectures are interesting for the most part, but they are what you make of them

WONDERFUL professor. She's hilarious, intelligent, helpful, approachable, and the list goes on. She's also the only english lit prof who gives tips on how to write a good essay in each class - this is why other reviews here say this class should be mandatory. She makes me sad that this is my last lit class, and I never thought I would say that!!

Very knowledgeable and definitely cares about the subject. Attendance is mandatory and the lectures tend to stray off topic (especially when she asks for student input/participation). But you can probably pass by with a B or higher using sparknotes (I did).

Prof. H-W is a great woman! She is very passionate and her lectures are engaging and interesting. Always willing to meet in office hours and response to e-mails promptly, however she her comments aren't always helpful. I started getting A's and ended getting Bs, but when I spoke with her she didn't offer any useful advice for improvement.

WORST professor I have EVER had at McGill- totally clueless, horrible excuse for a prof. What an embarrassment to the University. Her lectures are dull, uninformative, and if anything, make you dumberby association. I would recommend this class to people I hate- don't take ANYTHING from her if you don't want to suffer a slow and painful semester.

What a wonderful prof! She is very knowledgeable and the assignments really help you improve your writing skills drastically. She is very fair, and although there is a lot of reading to get through, you don't actually need the read the entire book to write the papers. She is such a sweet woman!

What a great class! This is the way an english class should be taught. The lectures were extremely interesting, informative and discussion based. The assignment really hone vital writing skills. This class should be mandatory for all English students.

Meh. WAY too much reading for a 200-level course, so even though she loves her stuff, there's no time to learn much about it. As a result, she's incapable of ending class on time.
