Comment:
Professor Lee created a class environment where anything would go, could be said, or could happen. I remember one day where instead of discussing the Iliad we talked about fan fiction for a good hour. The class was discussion based but discussions just meant say whatever you want and he'll nod and move onto the next comment.

He's a real teddy bear type: super sweet and wants you to do well, but you do need to try. Don't take this class if you aren't willing to study hard on your own. Just showing up won't give you what you need for the tests. he doesn't do a great job of really teaching the material he more just goes over the textbook and expects you to know it.

Made it very clear that everyone who shows up for class gets either an A or a B. Tests are hard, but he drops your lowest.

Ben Lee is a great, laid-back guy, but class was a bit too laid-back for my taste (it was hard to know what he wanted). Often gets distracted and will interpret your comments as agreeing with his, no matter what you actually say. Still, fun to listen to and taught a decent course.

Ben is a very relaxed guy with a great sense of humor; classes were interesting and really fun! He's really into literary theory, and is very smart. Plays hard and grades hard. You will laugh a lot in his class.

Ben Lee is the MAN. He is one of the most intelligent, hilarious people I've ever met. Definitely the teacher that changed my life. I've taken Latin with him and think he's a perfect fit for my learning style. Inspired me into the Classics, and I kind of want to PhD in Latin.

It's my impression that he might be much better in a smaller class setting. But I found him very disorganized, pretentious, and sometimes frankly rude. The day we had another professor sub in was the best class of the semester!

professor lee is intelligent, hilarious, and understanding of each of his students. i'm in an upper level latin class, and i can imagine him being confusing to latin 101 kids, but at the 300 level he's so knowledgable and so real that i can't help but look forward to his class. also, he's not rigid about homework or tests--he respects his student

I'm in Lee's seminar and it is awesome. It is also super easy compared to what all my friends are taking.

Ben is a great guy, and extremely knowledgeable. Admitedly, he could be more organised and his grading is extremely tough. He is more than accesible outside of class, however, and is more than willing to address questions in class. You need to make an effort to get the most out of his class. He is also fairly new and gets better with experience.

Can't say the syllabus was altogether inspiring: read at home, read in class, repeat ad nauseum. Not particularly engaging, lots of filler material in class to kill time. He's a nice guy, but he completely turned me off of the Classics.

Very clear and helpful, and enthusiastic about the subject matter. Has reasonable expectations, which he makes abundantly clear. I am bewildered by the accusation that he's ****; I've certainly seen no evidence of that at all. Perhaps the person who made this accusation is merely resentful of his or her poor performance in the course.

He seems like a nice guy and I'm sure he really cares about his students, but he's not a very good teacher. Latin 101 is *incredibly* difficult, it moves very fast and it's much more work than most 5-credit introductory language classes. He gets flustered by theory questions and prefers to stick to the poorly-written book. You will be overwhelmed.

Stressed too much on the text; gave some really dumb assignments, legitimized "cool" as a guideline for a paper.Way too flippant about everything. However Roman history is inherently cool and even he could not make it less so :)

Whoa. This class was unbelieveably hard. It was much harder and much more work than my 5-credit Spanish class. Although he's a nice guy, he's not overly helpful. I'm a classics major and I'm dong my best to avoid his classes. Many majors have said that he's made them cry at least once.

Extremely difficult, unreasonable grader (as in, get 1/5 of a question wrong and you get no credit at all). Moves extremely quickly; too much material for just a 3-credit class.
